Australian Libertarian Senator files racism complaint because he was called an 'angry white male'

Leftists frequently refer to "white males" in various contexts, apparently quite unaware that they are being racially discriminatory

Senator David Leyonhjelm has lodged a complaint under the Racial Discrimination Act for comments made about him by a journalist.

The Liberal Democrat senator, from New South Wales, submitted the complaint last week after a Fairfax media article was published referring to him as a 'boorish and gormless as a result of being an angry white male', reported the Daily Telegraph.

It is reportedly the first complaint of its kind for the Australian Human Rights Commission (HRC) under section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.

Under this section, it states it is unlawful to commit an act which would reasonably offend or insult someone because of their race, colour, national or ethnic origin.

In his complaint to the HRC Senator Leyonhjelm said his colour was one of the reasons the comments were made.

'Other characteristics referred to in the article include being a boorish supercilious know-all with the empathy of a Besser-Block, hate speech apologist, wacky, a self-promoting misanthrope and a practitioner of infantile reasoning,' he said.

'The comments are reasonably likely in all the circumstances to offend or insult some white males.'

Well, the Senator has already said he was not actually offended and the test is not whether he or anyone else would be.
The test is whether a reasonable person would be.
And then the maker of the statement has various defences in 18D.
I can't really see this complaint getting very far because I think that the Courts and most people would say that it is much harder for a reasonable person to be offended when the comment targets white people than when it targets others.
And that is a big part of the problem with 18C.

It doesn't pass the 18D test. It is a racist anti-white comment and should be treated as such. If the complaint is not taken up the it should proceed through the courts all the way to the High Court if need be to get this leftist crap of the books and force the states to also clean up their racism laws. This should have been addressed by the Andrew Bolt case but News Limited didn't have the balls.

I don't get offended. I'm a white male; I can take anything. I'm the toughest creature on the planet.

Anon 12:24 Being a dinosaur doesn't make the law equal as it should be. The socialist left will hound you and your ilk into the ground, to be exterminated for holding views they disagree with. If you don't stand your ground your son will lose his right to be a proud member of the white male species allowed to publicly express his views with being threatened with litigation should he survive the LGBTI and feminist induction of our universities where he will be subject to controlled thought. If you don't believe me just look at todays student union control of our educational system.
