Some jokes are not allowed these days
I have myself joked about "poofter drinks" (mixed drinks) in my wicked past, so I know it was a joke. "Poofter" is Australian/British slang for a male homosexual
A MELBOURNE bar owner has “unreservedly apologised” after pub goers took offence at an apparently homophobic sign.
A menu board at Handsome Steve’s House of Refreshment, in Fitzroy, listed items such as “Lemonade of honour”, “Whine”, “Geelong premiership years” as well as “No poofter drinks”, reported the Herald Sun.
The bar’s Facebook page has been bombarded by angry comments after a group of customers complained about the sign hanging in the bar on Saturday night.
“Homophobia is alive and well in this business. Time for management to grow up,” wrote Nic Gwynne. “It's not edgy or cool to bring back being a homophobic bro. It's f**king boring. Try harder next time,” Taylor Di Pasquale added.
Owner Steve Miller said the sign had been up for seven years, was not meant to cause offence and people, including gay customers, found it hilarious. “If I’ve given offence to anybody, I unconditionally apologise. I unreservedly apologise,” Mr Miller told the Herald Sun.
Convener of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Justin Koonin, told news.com.au if it was a joke, it was in very poor taste. “What seems funny to one person can be most hurtful to another. It is important to think about the impact language can have on those who are most vulnerable.”
Koonin said taking down the sign was the right thing to do.

Homosexuals and their fellow travelers are vicious about any suggestion of criticism of what they are doing; perhaps because they know that their perverted sexual activities are despicable.
Personally I think it was a great marketing idea. A very quick way to change the ambience of your pub if you have been afflicted with the gender confused and don't know how to get rid of them.
If Gay only bars can be legal so can a sign saying 'we don't serve poofter drink's here'. It is not saying they don't serve poofters only that they don't serve the drinks associated with them. It may be stereotyping but it is not discrimination. So for any offended poofters shove it where the sun don't shine.
"Poofter" usually means an effeminate type of male homosexual rather than gay people in general, and so drinks associated are correspondingly the type a lady might prefer. Many Gays might well find the sign amusing, as the was claimed.

A bar is free to serve whatever kind of drinks it wants and can simply and politely tell a customer that a particular requested drink just isn't available, without a prior announcement that drinks assumed to be favored by stereo-typical homosexuals won't be served.
If it is an attempt at humor and not egregiously anti-gay, it should be accompanied by a notice of drinks not served to other stereo-types of customer.
@ 10:09 - I doubt there are any "gay bars" that only allow gays to enter (how could they tell, and when people can lie if necessary). There may be member-only bars or clubs but there are many such private set-ups for members with something in common.
Of course to protect their customers, some gay bars may have bouncers at the door to prevent the entry of people deemed likely to be aggressively anti-gay.
