Famous British singer faces backlash over "homophobic" comments after admitting he was 'paranoid' about gays – and saying they're not 'normal'

They clearly are not normal.  They are only about 2% of the population

Sir Tom Jones has been blasted by fans after suggesting that he believes homosexuals are not 'normal'.

The ageing crooner admitted he used to be prejudiced towards gay people when he first arrived in London - and that he was so uncomfortable in their company that he even contemplated returning to Wales.

He also said he struggled to accept his first-ever music producer, the late Joe Meek, because of his sexuality, and became paranoid about his own managers and whether they were gay or not.

Sir Tom goes on to express his relief at discovering that most men in the music business were, as he described it, ‘normal’.

The comments have been met with widespread condemnation on Twitter, with fans of the singer lambasting his 'wrong' and 'out of touch views'.

Oh dear - the boring views about the different ways that the term "normal" can used. Most people are on some bell-graph about some feature where "normal" is some arbitrary range in the middle section.

Looks like our mixed-race crooner from the valleys (who'd no doubt be most offended if someone called him "half-caste") is ready enough to be "homophobic"; and egotistically scared that so many men around him in his profession might think him so attractive as to make unwelcome "advances"; and/or (like many homophobes) he's scared that he might be sexually excited by the imagined seduction.

As usual the pansy brigade get their knickers knotted about nothing. I note that no one has put the time period of the comments into context. They were made in time when homosexuality was still a criminal offence. The fact that he was overtly approached shows how much homosexuals at the time believed they had the power over aspiring singers and actors forcing them to choose between a career or exposing their tormentors and losing everything.

@10:52 You say he was "overtly approached" when it seems he was never so "approached" and admits himself that he was being paranoid. So your case against homosexuals at that time is very biased - especially when the proverbial "casting couch" was even more exploited by heterosexual men with regard to aspiring female singers and actresses (and in many other situations!).

Anon 2:42 is a fag. Jesus told me so.

2:42 is probably an example of the homophobe where the 'phobe' is fear of being homosexual himself, so he expresses it with aggression towards other homos.
