Must not publicize the 10 Commandments

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, contractors began taking down a 2,400-pound monument depicting the Ten Commandments from the grounds of Oklahoma’s State Capitol.

The monument’s removal comes a little more than three months after the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled in June that its presence violated the state constitution’s prohibition against using public property for religious purposes.

In Prescott v. Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission, the Oklahoma Supreme Court decided that the six-foot tall granite monument, which was built with private funds, “operates for the use, benefit or support of a sect or system of religion.”

Justice Thomas Prince wrote the opinion, which read, “The Ten Commandments are obviously religious in nature and are an integral part of the Jewish and Christian faiths.”

Gov. Mary Fallin reportedly said after the ruling that “the court got it wrong,".

After its removal, the Ten Commandments monument was transferred to the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA), a conservative think tank located in Oklahoma City.

Yes, part of the Ten Commandments are religious, but other parts are important guides for civilized society. I am an atheist and I support the display of the Ten Commandments in public places.

1:52 isn't much of an atheist then! (Or perhaps a fake one!!)

Anon 1:57

On the contrary, Anon 1:52 is obviously comfortable and strong within his atheism and doesn't feel oppressed by displays of religion because they don't bother him. You on the other hand are obviously a weakling that is afraid some such display might cause you to change your mind, though it possible you are just another leftist asshole who thinks everyone ought to think and act like you do.

Such "guides" as there are in the "Ten Commandments" for "civilized society" are so general and obvious (like not stealing or murdering or lying) as to wonder why they were necessary to point out to the ancient Hebrews. There's plenty about worshipping a jealous god, but for instance no mention in the "top ten" about slavery or owning people (which was evidently okay in some form or other). Of course there were more than ten commandments, and those were only an introduction to dozens more that today's "Christians" ignore when it doesn't suit their preferred life-style, making excuses that it was only for the Jews and Jesus brought a new covenant, etc., etc. Yet many love to highlight some as still relevant such as men having sex with other men, even though scholars have pointed out it was referencing temple prostitution and the fertility practises of rival pagan religions that the Hebrews were apparently so tempted to revert to all the time!

I think 2:12 is "projecting". He is the weak-minded one that is afraid some logic will cause him to realize that his religious superstitions are nonsense and no amount of religious imagery erected in public places will help.

Oops. Sorry about that. It's not nice to laugh at someone, even if they are the most illogical person (2:23) here claiming to be logical. My apologies.

For thousands of years religion has stifled science and discovery. It's therefore proper to dump it out the airlock as we leave the Earth and migrate through the galaxy.

Luke criticizes others for not presenting a proper argument saying it proves they have none, so his cheap comment at 7:45 proves his own point!

Olaf Koenders. If your dumb enough to beleive the all humans came from monkeys and all life came crawling out of the sea as some dumbass fish then i guess you also beleive the earth is still flat

Alpha Skua's poor spelling suggests a lower level of education and thus his/her lack of understanding biological evolution. By the way, humans and monkeys had a common ancestor, which, like all land vertebrates evolved from fish. There is no connection with believing the earth was ever flat rather than spheroid.

12:30 - Did Luke post some longer bullshit here that's been deleted?

i guess you also believe that god exists. belief is a silly thing.

"belief is a silly thing."

Such a perfect example of my point about Anon's tenuous grasp of logic! Belief is a necessary component of knowledge. Without belief you cannot have knowledge. For example, you cannot know that gravity exists while claiming that you do not believe gravity exists.

Just say these 10 commandments are from the Koran and then sit back and watch the circus.

Luke doesn't seem to realize that not all "Anon"s (and those who disagree with him) are the same person! Though perhaps not all "Luke"s are the same person either (whether or not the same person with multiple personalities!).
