"In God We Trust" incorrect?

We read:
"Officials in Kissimmee, Fla., blocked an effort to add "In God We Trust" to the city logo, saying the campaign brought too much negative attention -- but a city commissioner vows to fight it.

Commissioner Art Otero proposed the idea because he believes the country is becoming too liberal on issues including homosexuality, abortion and marijuana. Otero says he has plenty of support, and some residents may start a petition for a voter referendum.

The City Commission withdrew the possible change last week. Mayor Jim Swan said Otero's campaign brought "ridicule" on Kissimmee, and officials have received threats of boycotting local businesses and "future businesses looking elsewhere." Swan also said public employees have been deluged with distracting calls and comment on the issue.

"deluged with calls..."

1? maybe 2 calls?

He needs to just say he fears the ACLU and be done with it.

How the hell do you know how many calls? Are you with the NSA or something?

The question is, out of the 8 people who actually live in this place, how many called to complain? Or, was it simply some NYC leftist passing through on their way to Boca Raton.

It was a "mob," probably "carrying swastikas" who threatened the very foundations of democracy by drowning out the voices of reason.

So this is what life is now like under the "New Order", where the voice of one, can override the will of millions. Adolf, Benito, and Mao would be proud.

Please do some research on Kissimmee before making truly ignorant comments such as this.

Kissimmee population is about 61,000 people.

And for years now, one person can override what groups want. The Cross in the southern California desert is proof of that. Erected by a private group on private land, that was later donated to the feddies. Now one guy in Oregon, says that just maybe he might drive down the road that the cross is on and he might get offended, so he wants it taken down. While the cross is in litigation, it is covered up with a wooden box.

I think the people should vote on this issue, who does Art Otero think he is? God?

Vote of silly crap like this? Give me a break.

The people who object to that phrase should stop using the US dollar, and should stop accepting it in payment for their jobs (or more likely social security).

I wonder how much longer they're going to object when denied dollars :)

Why is the phrase on the US Dollar in the first place? - maybe because it's foolish to trust the fed bank so hopefully God will be kind.

Obviously a resident, which would prove who the truly ignorant one is. You had better hope the gas station along I-95 doesn't close. It's the only thing that keeps the town alive. Well, that and the Medicare office.

---Silly crap? It's the emblem that represents your city. This is America, we vote on everything, we don't want judges and elected officials imposing their views on us. Moreover, nobody has the right to impose their religion (or lack of religion) on everyone else.

Art Otero is yet another useless politician trying to generate publicity not by doing something that actually helps the community but by engaging in symbolism. He's no different than the liberals that want to celebrate earth day. Government is no place for extremism, if the people of Kissimmee want "In God We Trust" on their city seal, let them vote for it. But don't tell me that some asshole comissioner is going to decide for me. Frankly, I don't have a problem with the three issues he mentions, and if he has a problem with that, he's free to speak, but change the city seal? I don't think so, not without a vote!

Why should they ADD 'In God We Trust'? That's right, because "the country is becoming too liberal". Now you may stand on either side on issues but adding or removing symbols shouldn't be an obvious choice when combating opposing viewpoints. Not even when there is voting involved. Next you're discussing whether you should also vote on national symbols when choosing the president.

Republican -> go with the stars and stripes

Democrat -> change to rainbows and greenism

The closest I-95 gets to Kissimmee is about 50 milesto the east... I think you mean I-4, because I-75 is also about 50 miles to the west.
Boy, is anonymous lost!

I grew up in the south of Orlando area in the mid-50's. If you think it is small now, you should have seen it then!

"This is America, we vote on everything"

Then we should vote on EVERY decision some government employee makes, right? You are being a dipshit.

Voting is simply an anesthetic used to keep the sheeple quiet and give them the false impression that they actually have something to say about rules and laws that are made to control them, when they really don't. It's the perfect "drug" for this nation of weak, mindless, fools.

---No, I am being REALISTIC. We elect judges, the sheriff, we vote on referendum, we take opinion polls that legislators read, whenever something really important comes up, we usually vote.

Not every decision made by a government employee is important. But changing the city seal? You don't think that's important? That's the equivalent of removing the confederate flag portion that the Mississippi flag carries without letting the people vote on it.

Anonymous 7:17 gets it:

"Now you may stand on either side on issues but adding or removing symbols shouldn't be an obvious choice when combating opposing viewpoints."

I don't want religious fanatics forcing their faith down my throat. I don't go to their church, why should they go to my city? If they want a nativity scene? Fine. If they want a prayer club in school? Fine. But don't force me to pray in public at the football game, don't force me to pray at graduation, and don't you goddamm ruin my city seal with unnecessary changes. Just I trust in God doesn't mean I'm gonna trust in Otero or any of his religions minions.

Absolutely not. They should spend their energy doing things that will not make their city/town suck instead of worrying about inconsequential fluff.

---Like what? Declaring June as Gay Pride Month? That's the kind of symbolic crap conservatives are always railing against, yet Otero is no different than the lefties, he wants to shove religion down everyone's throat. What's next? Making church attendance mandatory? Has Otero ever heard "Render unto Caesar..." Even Jesus draws a distinction between the state and God.

QUOTABLE QUOTES
" The ethical collapse of the left was nowhere more evident than in the near total silence of liberal media and Web sites at the Obama administration's outrageous solicitation to private citizens to report unacceptable "casual conversations" to the White House. If Republicans had done this, there would have been an angry explosion by Democrats from coast to coast. I was stunned at the failure of liberals to see the blatant totalitarianism in this incident, which the president should have immediately denounced. His failure to do so implicates him in it.” – Camille Paglia

The councilman should have suggested allahu akbar, they would have been scared shitless to object to that.
