Book banning: That's the sophisticated NYC-style tolerance

They are about as tolerant as Joe Stalin, who said that "There is complete freedom of speech in Russia as long as you agree with me".
"Like many outlets of the CVS Caremark pharmacy chain, the store in Chelsea at Eighth Avenue and 24th Street has a book rack stocked with texts distributed by a Virginia-based company called Choice Books. These books are the inspirational type, many of them Christian-themed.

Leafing recently through titles like “Emergency Prayers” and “500 Questions & Answers from the Bible,” two Chelsea women were appalled by passages that called homosexuality a “cancer,” sinful and “detestable” to God. The women alerted Chelsea Now, a local newspaper, describing the passages as “hate speech” from which children had to be shielded.

Chelsea Now agreed in an editorial. In short order, CVS removed the two books from its stores throughout the city. “We are committed to building an environment of inclusion and acceptance that values diversity across all areas of our business,” a company spokesman, Michael DeAngelis, said in an e-mail message to me...

Christianity falls outside "diversity", apparently. We can't be TOO diverse, now, can we? The Left walk in lockstep like the Prussian soldiers of old. They would not know the meaning of diversity or tolerance. They use their brains only to defend their orthodoxies.

Not everyone in Chelsea agrees:

"A free society must “oppose inane attempts to silence people and to suppress ideas or to ban books that disagree with us,” Mr. Meyers wrote to Chelsea Now. “The tired canard of ‘protecting’ our children from ‘hate speech’ is exactly the cry of those who have long opposed positive social and cultural change.”"

I've argued enough against leftists on the internet to know that this is rarely true. It's frequently as if someone showed them a list of logical fallacies and they thought that's how they're supposed to argue.

As a NY'er, this is not much of a surpise to me, seeing how Christians are not very popular in Manhattan, (where this occurred) one of THE most left-wing places in the nation. Of course, if you are a Communist, Marxist, or anarchist, you'll fit right in.

And anyone who still has the ability to think for themselves knows that the last thing Leftists are, is tolerent.

So we have to be tolerant of the intolerant - christians who are hateful in their free expression - well if that's the way they enjoy free expression! At least they don't pretend and we all know what they really think.

Anon 9:27 -- You show by your labeling that you are not tolerant yourself.

If I am intolerant of intolerance I therefore promote tolerance by default.

Tolerance of immorality is no virtue. One only need remember that the Nazis tolerated all kinds of perversion, violation of property rights, violation of individual liberty, lying and deception, and acting on the lies. They were intolerant of God, Christianity, Judaism, and Freemasonry.

---The nazis did not tolerate perversion, why do you think they killed Ernst Rohm in the Night of the Long Knives?

The nazi view of sexuality is that sex is for procreation. Abortion was allowed only for non-aryans and homosexuality wasn't tolerated. They where sent to concentration camps to be cured, sometimes killed. In 1944, Hitler got desperate and gave some gay prisoners in the camp the possibility of undergoing castration to serve in the military.

Either way, the reason to tolerate "immorality" is to protect the freedom of our citizens and our own citizens. So in a perfect world, you should be able to find "HEATHER HAS TWO MOMMIES" in Alabama and "500 Questions & Answers from the Bible" in Chelsea. That's how freedom is supposed to work. Each individual citizen chooses what to read or watch. Besides, immorality is subjective, how do you define it? If it doesn't involved children or animals, what's the problem?
