Why Shouldn’t Tony Dungy Be Allowed To Say What Most People In The NFL Probably Think About Michael Sam?
Tony Dungy is catching all sorts of flack for a comment he made about Michael Sam even though it wasn’t homophobic, cruel or even mean. Believe it or not, Dungy is being attacked for doing nothing more than restating the conventional wisdom about Michael Sam that was being openly discussed on draft day.
"I wouldn’t have taken (Michael Sam). Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it … It’s not going to be totally smooth … things will happen."
There are 31 teams in the NFL that passed on an opportunity to take Sam and had the Rams not pulled the trigger in the final round of the draft, it’s entirely possible he wouldn’t have ended up on a roster at all. Is that fair? Well, given that the line on Sam was that he was an outstanding college player who would be marginal in the pros, it’s not a shocker that he wasn’t a hot prospect.
In fact, if the Rams had known he was going to kiss his boyfriend on TV after he was drafted and planned to have Oprah following him around, making a documentary about him, he probably would have gone undrafted.
The truth is that Michael Sam seems more interested in being professionally gay than being a pro-football player; so Tony Dungy’s right to say he’ll be a circus. In fact, the reaction to Dungy’s innocuous comments prove it.

Some homosexuals try to play it for everything they can undeservedly get.
It's a real coward who sacrifices a friend or colleague on the alter of convenience or expediency.
That's right 1:29, a hetero guy would never kiss a lover in public - double standards much?!
2:48 you are too silly for words. So silly that you are probably just a troll.
3:16 Don't pay much attention to the news do you? The push for these actions which you apparently find beyond the pale is even now being plotted. On the plus side. apparently we've finally discovered a perversion that you actually won't defend. Remember your statement when news of this sort hits the lame stream media. You won't have long to wait.
The Rams.. we know the Rams will be Ramming something, eh? The only reason they drafted him was because they don't win games anymore and can't get butts in the seats. This is a last ditch effort to get attention and attendance.
Unfortunately for the Rams they'll just drive away what is left of their fans as only a minority of the Rams fans left will want to be associated with being fans of a Gay team. Maybe the Rams can go ahead and put their symbol in rainbow colors. The good thing about Missouri is that citizens can still cheer for a home team in the KC Chiefs without needing to support the Gaystapo agenda.
Anon: 2:20 - Where the hell did 1:29 mention kissing? Can you tell the difference between a comment and the story?
The truth of the matter here is we have a person who's getting his 15 minutes of fame and the major part of his fame is not for what he's done but for what he is.
He's really no different than our current President who'll be remembered more for being the first black President than for the incompetence that has been the hallmark of his administration. Probably because such incompetence was also a hallmark of the Carter and Clinton administrations as well.
Wow - It's Homophobia Central here!! Or is it Homohysteria Central?!
If the homo player can use homophobia to his own advantage, then it's the homophobes who've brought it on themselves with their bigotry.
While I would hope that his quality as a player was the major factor, it is certainly not unusual that teams will look at off-field matters to make a final decision.
5:57 - Welcome to the crazy world of Tongue Tied and its wacky adherents. Enjoy the show.
He was picked near to or very last. The Rams had to bite the bullet for the NFL so they could remain PC. Were it not for advertising his sexuality he would not have been picked. It is unlikely he will get much play, but still it is likely to still drive away more fans.
