No Complaints Over 'Redskins'

Before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board stripped the Washington Redskins of trademark protection, the organization received exactly no correspondence (i.e., zero complaints) from the general public about the football team's brand.

In an investigation by The Washington Times, "A Freedom of Information Act request ... asking for any communications from Congress or the public produced just 13 pages of records. Six of those pages were a handwritten, meandering letter from a man in Lubbock, Texas, whose position on the team name controversy isn't clear.

Another writer congratulated the appeals board after its decision but questioned whether the judges would 'go after' the United Negro College Fund.

Both letters were sent after the ruling.

But the trademark appeals board did listen to someone -- namely, the shrill voices of 50 liberal senators with nothing better to do than foment politically correct bitterness.

Hey i have seen some minor league teams with names like the Idaho Falls Chuckars,Toledo Mudhens, and one of our local teams is the Happy Camp Indians theres also the Modoc Braves, i have never heard a complaint about those names

It's not about the name. It's about extortion, and control. The US Government is the worst enemy of it's citizens.

I think the team should drop 'Washington' from it's name because some people are offended by it.

Your blog is very informative with vivid articles and pictures included are also very infomative and useful for increasing the knowledge. This gives an insight to all the details needed for a particular or overall catalogue given on your website.

"I think the team should drop 'Washington' from it's name because some people are offended by it."

Yeah, like all the damn tea baggers.

If you seriously use the phrase 'tea baggers' when in a debate about offending groups of people, I cannot seriously consider your argument. You just invalidated any point you tried to make.

Really? In a discussion about whether or not the term "redskins" is so offensive it should not be allowed, you insult those you disagree with by calling them "tea baggers?"

It's a strange world you live in where racial slurs are grounds for cancelling the right of free speech but sexual slurs are fine.

What a brilliant argument! With debating skill like that there's no point in trying to challenge you!

"Boys." Now you've done it. Offend Warren Sapp will 'ya. Must be a racist.

Jerry, you are quite delusional if you think that this blog is for serious debate. All you have to do is look at all of bizarre posts by right wing wackaloons like the Bird brothers. I do not see you railing against them. Your indignation is rather biased.

Serious debate? Oh, like they have in the "greatest deliberative body in the world" the US Senate. Right. A greater collection of incompetent boobs would be hard to find, if the House wasn't right across the rotunda that is. There we hear about islands tipping over, flags on Mars, unemployment benefits creating jobs and other assorted blather. Of course, with the like of Dirty Harry Reid, Dick Turban and Fauxcohontas in the neighborhood, it's always a spirited contest as to which group can exhibit the grander delusions masquerading as rational thought.

I certainly recognize the lack of serious debate in this thread. Indeed, you have over-demonstrated it. And yes, I admit to a bias in expressing indignation. Especially as regards those who seem to take great delight in calling others names while hiding their identity behind "anonymous."

So is "Jerry Doctor" your real name?

12:51 You're wasting your time arguing here. It's a silly site for right-wing wakos to preach to themselves, and anyone else is dismissed as a troll, or worse.

4:21 AM apparently wastes his time visiting site he considers silly. Or perhaps he is the sub-minister in charge of monitoring silly sites then and not doing this in his spare time? Well sub-minister, most people visit this site to see what freedom destroying, mind control hijinks the leftists are up to of late. Hope this clarifies things for you.

Yes... although I'm sure some here will assume I'm lying.

BTW, the name "Doctor" comes from the Latin "docere" meaning to teach. Very appropriate given I spent 40 years teaching high school and college chemistry.

'Jerry' and 'Doctor' may in some way relate to your actual name, and your actual title or profession, but is still too vague to ID you any better than mere "anon".
Even if 'Jerry' is your surname rather than a first name, some initial and then some stated location would be needed to ID you slightly better.
And even then you could still adopt one or more other soubriquets with other comments or indeed use "anon" when you felt like it.

I assume I will now be accused of using poor Mr. Doctor's identity as my own. At least you know which posts are from me whether I'm really Jerry Doctor or not. How do I know which posts are from you and which are from a different "Anonymous?" That makes it very difficult to hold an actual conversation. Or is that the idea?

Fascinating as this has been, it's time to move on.
