White House cites free speech in Piers Morgan petition reply

There's always free speech for Leftists but it is perfectly correct that Morgan was free to say what he did.  Nobody would have expected Obama to act on the petition anyway so it was just an expression of disapproval rather than anything more serious

The White House has officially weighed in on a ballooning petition to deport U.S-based British television host Piers Morgan back to the U.K.  Morgan's anti-gun stance had raised the ire of over 100,000 people who wanted to boot him for "targeting the Second Amendment."

In a response posted below the petition on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney wrote:   “Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First.

President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press — fundamental principles that are essential to our democracy.

Funny response considering they routinely slam the "hate" speech coming from right wing commentators. Of course that "hate" speech supports the traditional values of the country, as well as the Constitution. Guess that explains it.

Except that, as a citizen of a foreign country, the US Supreme Court has already ruled that he is not covered under the First Amendment.

But hey, that's some dusty old document created by a bunch of gun-owning white guys....

This comming from a crooked presidrnt who totaly resents the U.S. CONSTITUTION and for what it was written all about and its not about gay marrage, illegal imagration or murdering your unborn child

Piers Morgan has stated clearly that he doesn't question the principle of the 2nd Amendment, only the illogicality of some types of high-powered automatic weapons being in the hands of ordinary citizens, and insufficient background checks on mentally unstable people having possession of firearms.

A "guest" has no right to tell you how to run your house. Since he has so many complaints about America, (other than the massive salary he's being paid) he should go back to Britain. Oh wait. They don't want him either.

Bird, remember the liberals only like the constitution when it works in their favor!

Anon 4:21.... Your ignorance of the subject is on display. Few Americans own automatic weapons. They have been outlawed for ownership by the general public since the mid 1930s. In order to buy an automatic weapon, you are required to have a Federal Firearms License.

10:27 AM - So wise-guy, kindly specify the types of weapons that were found in the ownership of the recent school and college massacres - (they weren't just hand guns or hunting rifles).

Well doofus 4:35, the difference between a semi-automatic, lookie like an assault rifle and a military issue, full auto-fire capable assault rifle apparently escapes you. Btw, Lanza left his rifle in his car trunk anyway. As to high capacity magazines, you want to conveniently forget the lady who recently defended herself and her children from an intruder by emptying her 6 shot revolver into him. Five out of six hit home and he was still able to flee. If he hadn't fled, but instead pressed his attack do you think the woman would have liked a few more shots to finish the job? As a good lib tell me, would her death simply be regarded as collateral damage in your insipid war against guns and the right of self defense?

however the fascist UK will ban Americans for their points of view. They've banned Rush Limbaugh for example.

Anon 11:53 Typical lib (what passes for thought) process: I don't like is therefore ban it, waaaaaa!. I don't like smoking, ban it; I don't like salt, ban it, I don't like gasoline, ban it, I don't like freedom on speech, ban it.
Well I don't like you, but I'm quite content to let you make an ass of yourself on a routine basis.

7:59 seems to typify the unneccessary aggression of the gun lobby, both in verbal abuse as in obsession with arms (freudian compensation no doubt!).
Btw. 4:21 who you attacked first was merely quoting what Piers said not giving his own opinion, yet you called him ignorant of the subject (guns? or Piers?).

It's sometimes good to have an outsider's view to put things in a better perspective. Unfortunately, Americans (more than most nations), are too much up their own a-hole!

How true. How true.

Liberals know everything, the great pity being that so much of what they know is wrong.

I think the White House spokesman put it very well and hope that the same response is issued when other issues of free speech arise.

The White House spokesman: that would be the professional liar who's job is to lie for the liar-in-chief.
Got it.
