Afghans accuse British defence boss of racism and disrespect

Must not say that Afghans are primitive and backward, even though they are
"Liam Fox was under attack last night for damaging Britain’s relations with Kabul after he described Afghanistan as a “broken 13th-century country”.

The Defence Secretary’s comments, made in an interview with The Times published on Saturday, provoked fury from the Afghan Government and media with officials calling the claims racist.

In his interview Dr Fox said that there must be a distinction between military and humanitarian goals. “We are not in Afghanistan for the sake of the education policy in a broken 13th-century country. We are there so the people of Britain and our global interests are not threatened.”

A senior Afghan government source said: “His view appears to be that Afghanistan has not changed since the 13th century and it implies that Afghanistan is a tribal and medieval society.

“Despite the sacrifices of British soldiers and the massive support of the British Government we do not feel that there is a mutual respect. His remarks show a lack of trust.”

Well, DUH! In fact, Afghanistan is much more like a broken "4th century" country!

My American opinion is, that we are all wasting the valuable lives of our young warriors, and for what? The people of Afghanistan "choose" to live in the 4th century and nothing we do will change that. If you have any doubt, just ask the Russians.

There is no logical reason for our warriors to remain there. If they do, we will see a repeat of what happened in Viet Nam towards the end of that war. The totally "PC-ized", armchair clowns who run our military, under constant pressure from the Marxists in the White House, will start to aim their inexperience, lack of understanding of anything, frustration, and fear of losing votes, at our warriors instead of the enemy. Already our troops are being told to, "fight, but don't hurt anyone", just like we were told in Nam.

When our warriors are sent into battle, there should be one, and only one, standing order. Fight, win, and get out!

Spoken like a true warrior!

But it isn't just Afghanistan, it's all those middle eastern countries. They ARE still tribal - don't shoot the messenger for telling the truth.

It's time to arm the Nukes and send the whole country back two centuries.

Back to the original stone age!

You are assuming they actually left the stone age. They did not, nor do they want to. Afghanistan was never a real country. It's just a collection of villages rule by primitive tribal leaders. And the best way to deal with them is to leave them to themselves.

We should nuke their poppy fields so they'll be radiated for the next few centuries, then get out. Totally out!

Been There,
I agree with you when you said: My American opinion is, that we are all wasting the valuable lives of our young warriors, and for what? The people of Afghanistan "choose" to live in the 4th century and nothing we do will change that. If you have any doubt, just ask the Russians." Unfortunately, there are nut cases like Osama Bin Laden who use Afghanistan as a launching pad for their terrist attacks on more modern and reasonable states so something has to be done. If we, the US don't, nobody will.

I thought according to the Islam calendar they are in the 13th century or thereabouts!

Now I've heard that the "liberated" Afghan authorities have closed down bars and nightclubs mostly frequented by westerners, despite them having alcohol licences etc. and arresting waitresses there for "prostitution" - so much for fighting and dying to give people "freedom" - HUH! More like just hopefully expanding "areas of influence" and more military bases!

American and other allied western soldiers have simply given their lives and body-parts to create a puppet government for the West which is already not so poodlely. But so long as the big-business interests get there pay-off, the blood and tax-dollars of the semi-supine western populations has been clearly well worth (their) effort!!
