Atheist Group Blasts Postal Service for Mother Teresa Stamp

We read:
"An atheist organization is blasting the U.S. Postal Service for its plan to honor Mother Teresa with a commemorative stamp, saying it violates postal regulations against honoring "individuals whose principal achievements are associated with religious undertakings."

The Freedom from Religion Foundation is urging its supporters to boycott the stamp — and also to engage in a letter-writing campaign to spread the word about what it calls the "darker side" of Mother Teresa.

The stamp — set to be released on Aug. 26, which would have been Mother Teresa's 100th birthday — will recognize the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize winner for her humanitarian work, the Postal Service announced last month....

Postal Service spokesman Roy Betts expressed surprise at the protest, given the long list of previous honorees with strong religious backgrounds, including Malcolm X, the former chief spokesman for the Nation of Islam, and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Baptist minister and co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Hmmm... I'm no fan of Mother Teresa but she was certainly a distinguished person and, as such, a fair candidate to feature on a postage stamp, I would have thought. She undoubtedly did some good works and I don't see why her religious beliefs cancel that out. The opposition is just atheist bigotry, I think.

This, and all the other recent stories about the never-ending attempt by atheists to make America a religion-free zone, simply proves that we need to bring back public executions, especially since they are an environmentally-friendly, cost- efficient solution. In fact, i would make them PPV TV events, donating all the money to abandoned and homeless children. American children.

I love this. Send a complaint by letter. That's a forty-four cent vote of confidence to the Postal Service. Genius!

... I would say more like hatred.

By lots of accounts from people who had dealings with her, Momma Teresa was a nasty, sadistic old crone, whose picture should be etched on the bottom toilet bowls rather than on a stamp.

Just goes to show what damage a lifetime of not getting laid will do to a person's personality.

Masochism is a virtue that made many a catholic saint

4:39Pm - unless you are trying to be ironic or amusing, you seem to be stuck in the middle-ages along with the muslims!

Touche!

Um, the United States of America was founded by Christian and God-believing people. That is a fact. Atheists were NOT a part of that in ANY way. Let's keep them out of this.

Christian and God-believing people who kept slaves. Guess we should uphold such a noble practice still!

And when the majority finally embraces Islam, we Christians will be scapegoated.

1:08 - a lot of things are classified as sins in the Bible, why focus so much on "man on man sex"? I expect there is a good psychological explanation for that!
Besides, the refs to "man sex" in the Bible refer to the Jewish distaste for gentile/pagan practices (especially male prostitution in pagan religious rites).

Anon 2:16,

Because that's where the battle is. There wouldn't be a battle over homosexual behavior if they weren't trying to jam it down our throats.

3:00 You seem happy to jam your preferred lifestyle down their throats, even though the majority hasn't the right to oppress the minority. Both exist in a democracy and should avoid "throat jamming" as much as possible.

When will people realize what a sadistic, cruel, and inhuman bitch she was who had many contacts with the Lincoln savings and loan problems during the first Bush's presidency.

How can people have so much compassion for a woman who told people who were sick and dying to stay in bed, without any medicine, and in many instances without food or water.

Her, Gandhi, and the Dali Lama are some of the biggest phoney's the world has ever known and until people like this are removed from society, we will never have any peace.

There is also the possibility that the Bible was simply trying to provide an explanation for why man finds homosexuality thoroughly revolting, even if the explanation is essentially, "That's how God made man."
