NJ Teacher Tells Girl to Put Away Bible

How filled with hate Leftists are! What if it had been a Koran? No problem, of course. The girl would probably have been praised in that case.
"A teacher at the Madison Park Elementary School in Old Bridge, N.J., told a 3rd grader that the Bible was not appropriate reading material for quiet time, and ordered the girl to put the book away, according to the girl's parents.

Now the principal is apologizing, saying that the teacher made a mistake and that school policy absolutely does allow children to read the Bible or any other religious book during quiet reading time.

Michelle Jordat says her daughter, Mariah, cried when the teacher told her to put away the Bible. Jordat says her daughter's feelings were hurt and she was confused. "This was injustice," Jordat says. "No other child has to go through this again." Jordat accepted the principal's apology, but wants something in writing stating that reading the Bible is OK during personal reading time. She also says she will speak to a lawyer.

The mother should sue the teacher personally.

That's right. Just as leftists do. Why haven't we heard from those leftists and their beloved (and imaginary) "separation of church and state" claim? The teacher, an agent of the state, was clearly denying this child her Constitutional right to practice her religion during this "private" time. This PC'ized teacher should be fired!

Okay, the teacher made the call that it's not appropriate to read the bible during a SSR (Self Sustained Reading) basically called quiet time reading, that doesn't make her a leftist. It could be that the teacher was ill advised by school policy and staff. The principal was notified by family and said the issue was rectified.

The family is absolutely right in asking for the policy to be in writing reading religious reading materials.

For all we know this is a first year teacher and the pressure is huge to conform by their peers. Yeah peer pressure, because for the first years of a teacher the senior staff teachers decide whether the new teachers can keep their job. It is one hell of a way to maintain a leftist hold on the teaching profession.

Oh...and private time reading is never private personal time.

That's right! There have been far too many of these "mistakes" in recent years. This kind of censorship and abridgment of religious freedom has been happening way too much. There does not need to be a "school policy" regarding anyone's freedom to read the bible during private time. Teachers and administrators just need to learn what the constitution says. Sorry to say but loss of a great deal of money for the school district is the only thing that is going to teach them this lesson.

Why do you assholes hate teachers so much? They are human too. Did one put you into one too many timeouts?

---I don't hate teachers unless they try to indoctrinate our kids and forget to have common sense.

Reading the bible is protected by freedom of religion, moreover, nobody was coerced into reading the bible, an individual student decided to do that.

I'm not a church-going man, and my morals are very libertine when it comes to many things, but even I know you don't tell a kid not to read a freaking bible!

Perhaps we should give the teacher time to become a full-fledged leftist? The problem here is that this teachers actions are "very common throughout the profession". It is part of the on-going attack on Christianity by the left.

I don't know what everyone is getting worked up about. The teacher made a mistake, the principal appologized and clarified the policy, the parents accepted the appology. Sounds like everything worked as it should.

As a liberal leftist i would fire that teacher or at least reprimand the teacher. All liberal leftists are defendants of separation of state and church as guaranteed by your constitution. A teacher as employee of state shall therefore never make any statement whatsoever about religious text and is only allowed and required by law to order to put these away when lessons start. As for why you don't hear that there might be different reasons:
1) nobody cared about this enough because there is enough spare time after school (teacher's action still illegal)
2) you haven't listened/searched
3) both of the above

As an atheist i applaud Mariah to read the bible on her own and hopefully critically assess claims and possible interpretations. The bible is a good start to learn about fallacies.

No, I don't hate anyone, but I seriously dislike ignorant people who should know better. They are supposed to be educators and they are more ignorant than their students. Timeout? You're showing your age. When I went to school, if you were bad, you got paddled.

Yeah, right.

the leftist zealots are afraid of Jesus. Perhaps they should fear atheists, more people have been killed in the name of atheistic communism than any other name by a large magnitude. See Mao and Stalin and other atheistic pals.

So it's just a matter of numbers killed that one judges the merits of Christianity over Atheism - ?!

Public hanging.

Just kidding, without more details it is hard to say what is appropriate. As stated this could be a new teacher that got to PC, but it could also be a pattern in the district. It could be an honest mistake, followed by a quick resolution then a greedy lawsuit hungry parent. Or it could be that the school only apologized once lawyer was mentioned. Sorry but I cannot see jumping to hate like I was AlFranken

Maybe someone should buy the teacher a copy of the Constitution to read. Can she even read?

The vengeful, jealous god Yahweh as portrayed in the Old Testament who desires blood-sacrifices and wipes out whole populations on a whim, sounds a lot more "satanic" than Satan. Perhaps he is Satan and had the true God misrepresented as "Satan". So be very careful who you are worshiping.
