A vicar who complained about 'blasphemous' comments made by Jeremy Clarkson has been told by the BBC that 'offensive language is just a part of everyday life'.
The Rev Graeme Anderson said he was 'surprised and upset' after the Top Gear presenter shouted 'Jesus wept' and 'God Almighty' during a show on March 4.
Mr Anderson, of St Mary's church, in Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, said: 'I thought Top Gear was great before this.
'But I found Jeremy Clarkson's comments very offensive and I think many Christians would.
'Sometimes the Church and Christians are belittled and cheapened, and sometimes we deserve it, to be honest. But this is different.
'I also drew attention to double standards between the way the BBC deals with Christianity and Islam. I'm delighted the BBC treats Islam with such respect. 'I just wish they would treat Christianity with some.'

Poor vicar so offended by a tv program. He should save himself the pain by simply switching off and going to his church to admire his choir boys/singing)!
Personally, I don't see blasphemy in either statement. He was just trying to make the point that he was having a highly emotional reaction to whatever it was that was happening. I do that all the time, using things like "there will be waling and gnashing of teeth", or other quotes from the Bible.
Lighten up.

Blasphemy comes in many forms.
It could be said that making a public affirmation that the 6 million numerolgy of a certain historical event is derived of Kaaba Allah or "cube god", is 'blasphemy'.... The current prevailing PC othodoxy says it actually happened in fact.
Offensive language is a part of everyday life. The problem is that nearly everything is offensive to someone somewhere. The only way we can avoid offending someone is to never speak.
Example: Anon 5:26 offers condolences to someone who says he is a Christian.
That's offensive to some. Others think it's a cute comment.

I wonder if the vicar was also offended when the Church of England officially recognized Sharia Law?
As though Luke isn't here constantly being a TROLL - or how does he define "troll" (along with his other weird definitions).
Funny to see the Catholic Church trying to poach members off a sister church - the Anglican/Episcopalian Church because they aren't so happy about women priests or homosexual priests (like there are no gay priests in either denomination!!) Is this the ecclesiastical equivalent of the Darwinian principle of "Survival of the fittest" - between the two so-called christian churches?? (And both have indeed officially accepted the scientific "Theory of Evolution" despite their bad record on persecuting people who disagreed with their earlier primitive view of the world.
