Military report: Terms 'jihad,' 'Islamist' needed

We read:
"A U.S. military "Red Team" charged with challenging conventional thinking says that words like "jihad" and "Islamist" are needed in discussing 21st-century terrorism and that federal agencies that avoid the words soft-pedaled the link between religious extremism and violent acts.

The report, "Freedom of Speech in Jihad Analysis: Debunking the Myth of Offensive Words," was written by unnamed civilian analysts and contractors for the U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for the Middle East and South Asia. It is thought to be the first official document to challenge those in the government who seek to downplay the role of Islam in inspiring some terrorist violence.

"The fact is our enemies cite the source of Islam as the foundation for their global jihad," the report said. "We are left with the responsibility of portraying our enemies in an honest and accurate fashion."

A January 2008 memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties stated that unidentified American Muslims recommended that the U.S. government avoid using the terms "jihadist," "Islamic terrorist," "Islamist" or "holy warrior," asserting that would create a "negative climate" and spawn acts of harassment and discrimination.

That's the first time I've heard it stated so well. Political correctness is typically favored over truth and honesty.

I'm not against Muslims in general. Far from it. I believe there are many Muslims with good, noble, Godly, and compassionate intentions. It is the radicals who give them the bad name. But more importantly, it is the radicals who are the terrorists and causing the problems.

It's really no different from calling a group of Christians who bomb abortion clinics "Christian extremists". If the shoes (or sandles) fit, wear 'em.

Muslims are really great, if you work a 24/7/52 job. Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas don’t have any meaning to them, so I always got them off. Now they did have some holidays that they wanted off, but they weren’t holidays to me. All of us were happy!

I would bet that those unidentified Muslims happen to be enemies hoping to throw us off the scent of the truth in order to get us to act on false information. Whatever helps Islam is the only morality they recognize...

I agree with Mobius, lets take advantage of those ragheads.

Robert, you make a good point, but the radical Muslims in the US, (and there are tens-of-thousands of them) don't need to throw us off the scent. They know only too well that generally speaking, the American people are too weak and stupid to be of any concern to the terrorists in our midst. What the American people need is another dozen or so 9/11's. Maybe then they'll wake up. Maybe.

Anon #1: I hear this excuse all the time about Christians blowing up abortion clinics. In the last 8 years since 9/11, there have been over 12,000 terrorist attacks, with over 850 fatalities in this month of December alone, all carried out by Muslims in the name of Allah. How many abortion clinics have been bombed by Christians in teh name of God in that same time period. Also, how many fatalities came as a result of all these Christian bombing?

And as for terms, I prefer to call them hirabi's.
