NY: Case puts N-word use among blacks on trial

"In a case that gave a legal airing to the debate over use of the N-word among blacks, a federal jury has rejected a black manager's argument that it was a term of love and endearment when he aimed it at a black employee.

Jurors were weighing punitive damages Tuesday after finding last week that the manager's four-minute rant was hostile and discriminatory, and awarding $250,000 in compensatory damages."

Does this mean that all rap music will be banned?

What about black comedians who's every 2nd word is nigga?

Does this mean that black people will no longer be allowed to speak, since they can't seem to speak without saying nigga?

Is calling a White person "cracker" also illegal?

And so does this mean that US posters here will stop criticizing the UK for PC-related punishment of free speech, when it patently goes on in the US? Probably not as Americans are so hypocritical (or at least many of them here!).

If it's "offensive" for whites to say it why is it a term of "love" when blacks say it?

If it's a "racist" word it's a racist word, no matter who sys it!

Time to end the double standard!

It would be great if this started a trend to end the use of the word by blacks. Black leaders are constantly complaining that whites are racist but say nothing about blacks using a word that is so closely linked with racism.

During a 4 minute rant he just happened to toss in a term of love and endearment?
Yeah, right.

Blacks are very well aware that they have special "privileges" not granted to Whites. Constantly complaining that Whites are racist is simply a diversion, one that takes attention away from the fact that, generally speaking, blacks are (the most) racist people in the country. By far.

Anon 2:18, you are quite right. We are real bad here in the US. But thank God we're not as bad as you blokes are. Not yet anyway.

my children never heard the word 'nigger' and never would have except to hear a black person use it.

Anon 3:56, I can second that! I'm 50 now and my parents would have smacked me if I used that word. Blacks are the reason the word is still in use.
