Feminists in Canada Want to Change ‘Sexist’ National Anthem

A group of notable feminists from our northern neighbor are demanding a change to their country’s national anthem with the goal of making it more 'gender neutral.'  The Globe and Mail reports:

"At issue is the line: “True patriot love in all thy sons command.” According to Restore Our Anthem, a group that includes writer Margaret Atwood and former prime minister Kim Campbell, these lyrics are exclusionary of women, and do not reflect the original intent of Robert Stanley Weir, who wrote the English words for O Canada in 1908."

The controversial lyric in question was added in 1913 for unknown reasons. But, the ‘Restore Our Anthem” group insists the change has sexist roots. Now, on the 100th anniversary of the original anthem, the feminists are starting a campaign to restore the language.

So, because of two words, feminists are attempting to hijack the Canadian national anthem. This kind of political correctness is all too common in our own country, where one year a textbook review process revealed schools had changed the term ‘Founding Fathers’ to ‘Founding Framers,’ seemingly to make it sound less male-dominant.

Other than the smooth flow these words provide, something else to consider is how many patriotic Canadians have grown up singing these exact lyrics. It’s the only anthem they know and is no doubt plastered on landmarks throughout the country.

Who is this group of grumbling women to demand a change to their fellow citizens’ beloved anthem, no matter how small it may seem? I mean, does this feminist group really think the lyrics were changed for the specific purpose of excluding females?

If it's only one line that wasn't even there originally, why not drop it if only sons and not daughters are implied to be the only Canadians of consequence. Afterall, the national Anthem of the parent country (Britain) has dropped or ignored the offensive verse about the Scots.

If Canadians are becoming as politically correct, and as weak, as their cousins in the UK, and it certainly appears to be the case, they will allow a handful of radicals to disrupt their entire nation. A nation that even lacks the strength and will to defend it's own national anthem doesn't deserve to have one.

National anthems are usually just primitive tribal war chants &/or sentimental drivel.

Founding Fathers changed to Founding Framers?!? I would like to know just how many of the "Framers" were women. Do they just spend all day, every day obsessing about this stuff? How about expending energy doing good in society to gain the respect they crave instead of playing semantic games.

I wonder how many Australians know that the original lyrics of "Advance Australia Fair" said:
"Australia's sons," not "Australians all"?

What? You mean the PC crowd defiled the Aussie Anthem as well? This is new to me. Dig up some Anzacs and ask them if they think it was all worth it, what it's all come to after all. Ask Billy Hughes how impressed he is about our "sovereignty", whereby our "Commonwealth" is a listed corporation on the SEC in (puke) Washington DC. Our "Constitution", which as being British Law is invalid since the Aussie public never ever voted to ratify it or not as they should have latest 1920. After considering that, maybe less questions needed about "the massacre we had to have" in Tassie to pry those scroundrel-stopping guns from the population before we put a crimp in a dastardly scam. Australians all let us regret, for we were young and free. We'd golden soil and wealth for toil, our home was girt by sea. But now we toil and others bludge and no-one gives a truck. In woeful strains then let us wail, you bastards set us up!

Maybe Canadian Cuban Ted Cruz should go up there and kick some ass.

They don't seem to be worth his time.

That was my thought too Malcolm - they changed Australia's anthem to be more 'gender inclusive' as well.
