We read:
"This morning I woke up to a Google+ post from a friend featuring RickPerry's latest YouTube ad called “Strong” featuring the Texas Governor strolling up a riverbank, pausing to deliver his punchline six seconds in: “You know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.”
Eric Williams writes, “Flagged as inappropriate due to hate speech against others related to their sexual orientation. Suggest others do the same.” The Perry video is an open attack on the gay community.

I think it is clear that the point of the video is to say that there is freedom for some but not for others. And the change is all in one direction. And since the army opposed openly homosexual troops on the grounds that they would be bad for morale and cohesion, it is perfectly reasonable to say that open homosexuals should NOT be in the army. Maintaining morale and cohesion is of major importance in any military operation. So it is not hate. It is operational wisdom.

RICK PERRY SPEAKS THE TRUTH !!!!!
It's all about interpretation. His statement can very, VERY easily be interpreted as gays have finally been given the liberties they have been asking for, yet our children are still being religiously persecuted.
It's only offensive if you are looking to be offended.
As a typical US politician he is pandering to bigoted voters.
Other western countries don't have a problem with "gays in the military" that haven't led to any ill effects; but maybe American soldiers are more horny or perverse!!??
People said the said same thing about blacks in the military; following your logic, we should expel them also.
Oh for f*ck sake. All the guy did was state an absolute fact. You are just interpreting it wrong. These kinds of misinterpretations from insensitive Liberals are what continue to fuel such completely unnecessary debates.
The traditional mentality of the military is not have multiple apartheid - separate services for heterosexual white men / homosexual white men / heterosexual white women / lesbian white women - and duplicating the above groupings for non-whites and maybe sub-divided again for hispanics/ latinos /asians, etc. or even for christians and muslims and other religious groups. Only then can we have perfect harmony - different but equal!
Attention ID10ts that never served in the military...
In my beloved Corps, we have only one color. Green! You can be dark green, light green or any shade in between. But you are green! This was not always the case....
At one time there were no dark green Marines. But we have them now and we are better for it. It is always better to have more people available to serve in my Corps IF they are worthy of the honor.
At one time we did not allow women Marines. This is clearly foolish as it precludes 51% of the population from serving in my Corps. This rule was abandoned, WMs now serve proudly, and we are better for it.
There have ALWAYS been homosexuals in the military. And yes, even in my beloved Corps. And now they do not have to lie to the people that they trust with their lives and who trust them with theirs. There should honesty between Marines. Now we will have that and be better for it.
(And honestly...we knew. It isn't hard to figure it out. We knew who they were. But as long as you were trustworthy and competent why would we drop a dime on a fellow Marine? I'd rather share a fighting position with a gay Marine than a thief, a substance abuser, or one of the bad crazies any day.)
Now, if I, a Marine, can say I am happy to welcome a brother into our ranks regardless of his previous color, gender, or choice of bed partners, I would hope the (supposed) professional soldiers of our Army, Navy, and Air Force can do the same.
As for Rick Perry-thank you for your service to our country. But the opinions of a O-3 transport pilot with no combat decorations that last served over thirty years ago are barely relevant to a military that has spent the last decade in combat. So when you bust on the gays I serve with (using the same bullshit arguments that were employed against the dark green among us) you insult me as well. So please take this opportunity to shut the hell up. Or get in your play clothes and grab some wall. I hear you're a pretty good shot and it's still party time in Kabul...
Well said 4:38 PM. Some people have to be left in the 20th century where they belong (some even in the 19th or 18th centuries!).
