Michigan's Cherry Knoll Elementary School Under Fire For Removing 'Gay' From 'Deck The Halls'‏

We read:
"A Michigan music teacher's decision to censor the word "gay" from a traditional Christmas carol is being met with a frosty response.

The teacher, who has not yet been named in any of the published reports, allegedly removed "gay" from "Deck The Halls" after 1st and 2nd grade students kept giggling during preparations for a Christmas concert at Cherry Knoll Elementary School in Traverse City. Instead of the traditional lyric, the students were taught to sing "don we now our bright apparel," according to UpNorthLive.com.

The school's Facebook page has since been inundated with reactions from infuriated parents and fellow educators. "By taking the word 'gay' out of 'Deck The Halls' you are making it a big deal, one word can have different meanings," wrote one user. "Your personal opinions should not reflect what you teach other people's children. Please teach the children the classic song the way it was written."

Another added: "Essentially, this teacher has now taught the elementary school children, including children as young as five, that gay means homosexual sex."

As UpNorthLive.com notes, however, Principal Chris Parker has said he is disappointed in the music teacher's decision to change the lyrics to the song, and the students are, in fact, now back to singing the original version.

Ah yes, the evolution of word meanings.

Originally it meant happy, cheerful, joyful. (That was the meaning in the song.)

Then the homosexuals coopted it to try to make homosexuality sound cheerful and happy.

As a result, "gay" has come to mean pathetic, lame, substandard.

It almost as if the negatives they try to hide by using positive words can't help but leak through and stain the "fresh new euphemisms."

As has been said before on these posts, it was not homosexuals who applied the word "gay" to themselves first but was a demeaning word by "straight" people because "gay" was slang for female prostitutes and then applied to effeminate homosexual prostitutes. In the 60's homosexual groups just tried to turn the word around as now they do with "queer", "fag", "queen" etc. It's amazing how homophobes blame their victims even for the names they call them.

" AIDS will save the world."

Yup. It will happen sooner than later, especially with our hatred for Obummercare.

Gay still means happy.

3:38 is a wilfully ignorant bigot. Particularly amazing is that he/she can say that "fudge packer" was a term devised by homos and not hetero bigots.
And Bird of P has been discredited so many times for his ignorance plus inability to spell simple English - he/she can't even spell a 3-letter word "GAY" and then so ironically says look it up in a dictionary!! What a tool!

Awe, but he is OUR tool.

The teacher didn't change it because of any PC bull.... she changed it because the kids kept giggling and she just wanted to get past it and teach them music. To be honest I don't really blame her. This really is a non-story.

I absolutely blame the teacher. Did she bother to even instruct her students that "gay" has more meanings than the homosexual community would have us believe? Did she instruct her students about "context"? or are our schools too f*cked up to turn out students who even have a clue?

'Gay' would be one topic that most public school teachers seem happy to teach, regardless of age!

And what have we learned...?

That a bunch of seven year old kids think gay=homosexual. Now, since I'm betting they didn't learn that in school at their age, what does this tell us about the way they were raised? About a culture where they have already begun to "otherize" and mock people that are different from themselves? Where something as minor as one word can set them off?

We learned they are seven. What excuse do some of the posters here have for having similar spastic reactions?

Bullying in schools starts with the "pack" picking on someone who seems different according to the norms of the pack. Adults aren't much different. Humans are not much more evolved/advanced than animals.
