Artist cancels showing of Obama “Jesus” painting

Offended Christians get heard for once:
"A New York artist has canceled the public showing of his portrait of President Obama after receiving a barrage of angry e-mails condemning the religious nature of the work. ‘The Truth,’ a painting by Michael D’Antuono, was scheduled to go on view Wednesday in Union Square in Manhattan to mark the president’s first 100 days in office. The work depicts Obama in a crucifix pose and wearing a crown of thorns, with the presidential seal in the background.”

A Muslim probably complained and that's why they stopped it. Christian complaints don't count.

I don't want any U.S. president painted as God's son. From Washington, to JFK to G.W. Bush to Obama, I think it's insulting.

All U.S. presidents are moral men who try to do what's best for this country. It does not make them a god.

But boy, the love affair with Obama is really something though, isn't? Not that I hate the guy or anything. I mean, I didn't vote for him but he's still my president and I'll show him respect and I'll even respectfully disagree with some of his policies.

But look at how many people fall over themselves when it comes to him, as if he were a rock star instead of president of the United States of America.

Times Observer, you're right about the illusion who now occupies the Oval Office. An illusion created and maintained by the MSM. The American people are living proof that P.T. Barnum was right.

Maybe the artist is ridiculing the way some people love Obama. I don't think his painting is offensive, I think the undeserve worship Obama gets is offensive.

If the Big B.O. was really a Christian, he would be among the first to object to this painting! However if he was a Muslim, then he wouldn’t feel any need to object.

All expression, no matter how offensive to some, should not be pulled. The fact that you seemed to take joy in the fact that hecklers can shout down speech and expression they don't like seems a little like the pot calling the kettle Obama.

Either we live strive to live in a country where people are allowed to express themselves and have an outlet for it or we strive to live in a world where only opinions that make us feel safe are heard.

The painting is clearly meant to mock Jesus, and it's not the first "art work" done with that intention. Notice how we never see displays disrespecting any other religions.

I say let's put the Obama Messianic theory to rigorous scientific testing. If he really is Messianic, isn't the next logical step to crucify him and see if he rises after 3 days? Who wants to drive thr first nail?

---Well, the painting does not go far enough. Where are the nails? Where are the roman soldiers? Where's the spear piercing his stomach?

I fault the artist for not not taking it further.

Anon. 5:37: There are two sides to that coin. The people who oppose the painting have the right to express their opinion also. If I read your post correctly you think that it is wrong to express an opposing thought.

As a Christian I do not really find the picture an affront. What I really find disgusting is that the press for a year leading up to the election portrayed Obama as walking on water, even though the guy had absolutely no experience running anything and is now demonstrating that to the world.
