Trump shows impatience with weak-kneed British response to terrorist attack. Journalists freak out

Not long after his city was hit by a horrific terrorist attack, Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, announced that "Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. No reason to be alarmed — one of the things the police and all of us need to do is make sure we're as safe as we possibly can be."

Within hours, the President of the United States was trashing the mayor on Twitter: "Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!"

When his Tweet caused widespread outrage across Great Britain and beyond, Donald Trump had every opportunity to backtrack, thereby defusing a completely needless confrontation with America's closest ally. Instead, as might only be expected on the sad record of the last months, President Trump decided to double down. "Pathetic excuse" by the mayor, he tweeted today.

Trumps tweet was ridiculously stupid.

The media and Trump are in a race to the bottom. Both know that people look for them to make outrageous statements and they both are living up to those expectations.

BoP,

As logic is not your strong point, what should the Mayor of London said?

"There are police out in the streets and people should freak out and go bonkers?"

Isn't the goal of terrorists to spread terror and to make people feel unsafe?

Doesn't Trump's tweet help the terrorists and not the people of London, the Mayor of London, or law enforcement in London?

This was a stupid act by Trump and it is no wonder that you support it. The President of the United States should have stood tall with England and pledged support - not condemnation.

Instead of supporting an ally, Trump took time to slam a Mayor to make a political point here.

It is funny that you think the England of Richard the Lionheart was great. After all, your knowledge of Richard seems to leave out that he was famously anti-Jewish and arrested Jews for their faith. Are you the same type of bigot BoP? Or do you just support other bigots?

I do admire your consistent whining and complaining about others whining and complaining. Your hypocrisy is as consistent as your ignorance, and lack of spelling and grammar.

(In case you missed it, the "admiration" was, of course, sarcasm.)

"no reason to be alarmed". Reading Kahn's statement it is very easy to understand that he was talking about the increased presence of the police, but, as I understand the news reports, one of the perpetrators was already on the radar as a radical. Kahn should be investigating why the British Intelligence didn't keep a closer watch on him. I realize they can't watch everyone but already on the radar should have meant 'more likely than not, he might have been involved in something like this'. This event was not planned overnight so I would presume that there might have been enough time to gather more intelligence on him and his friends and maybe prevent this event from happening.
