Black college professor is fired in wake of heated Fox News interview where she made racially insensitive comments
A New Jersey community college has fired an adjunct professor after officials say she made racially insensitive comments on Fox News.
Lisa Durden was axed from Essex County College as the adjunct communications professor on Friday - roughly two weeks after she appeared on 'Tucker Carlson Tonight'.
Essex County College's president Anthony Munroe announced the decision Friday and said officials at the school had received complaints about her heated interview with Carlson.
Durden, who is black, discussed a Memorial Day event held exclusively for black people hosted by a Black Lives Matter group in New York.
When Carlson asked her her thoughts, Durden interrupted the host, saying: 'Boo hoo hoo. You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card' to attend the event.'
She added, 'You've been having 'White Day' forever' as she defended the group for wanting to have 'one day for black folks to focus on ourselves.'
Carlson called her comments during the roughly six-minute interview 'hostile, separatist and crazy.'
The school suspended Durden two days after the show aired.
Durden said the school 'publicly lynched' her. The school on Friday said 'racism cannot be fought with more racism.'
In a statement, Munroe said that families who contacted the school over her comments expressed frustration.
'When the administration receives an outpouring of concern regarding our student body, it is our responsibility to investigate those concerns,' he said.
'The character of this institution mandates that we embrace diversity, inclusion, and unity. Racism cannot be fought with more racism.'
He made it clear that the college is committed to a welcoming environment to all students of a variety of backgrounds, races and cultures, and defended firing Durden.
She is reportedly going to take legal action over her firing, NJ.com reported.

She should cut her losses now. Court action will only escalate and she won't be able to afford the ultimate loss that she will face if it get to the Supreme Court. The university has nothing to lose by taking it that far.
Wheres Jessie Jackson of Al Sharpton to condem the university/collage and accuse them of racsism?

Do you really think the government should punish someone for speech outside of their workplace? Do you really think that the government should censor people who made a statement without ever identifying they were working for that institution?
Durden is a racist, a bully and an imbecile. If you want to not hire her or retain her for that, that's fine. You cannot fire her over her comments outside of the school and outside of her work.
You either believe in free speech or you don't.

This site is weirdly schizophrenic. Supposed to be dedicated to freedom of expression - but strangely doesn't seem to support it for people whose views they disagree with...

It seems that she does not have suitable characteristics for someone who is teaching.

While on the surface, the two cases seem the same, there is an important difference:
Druden's comments were made while she was employed by the college. She was an adjunct professor who was teaching summer courses. She was suspended and her classes were cancelled before she was eventually terminated.
Dettwyler was an adjunct professor who was not teaching when her comments were made.
Adjunct professors are offered teaching contracts on a semester by semester basis. The school has no duty or obligation to offer her a new contract for the upcoming fall semester.
In short, Druden should not have been let go in the middle of her contract and the University of Delaware did not have to re-hire Dettwyler.
Both women are arguably vile creatures who are bullies and racists, and arguably neither of them should be around teaching anyone based on their hatred of students and certain groups of people. At the same time, their employment situations need to be taken into account as to whether they should continue teaching at their colleges.
Timing and employment status matters.

Statistically, it's most often the black boys and girls being gunned down by each other. Not because of racism or segregation in the past which is always blamed but never proven AND they're too young to have lived through it, but because they just don't know how or care to play nice if they can invent an excuse.
If you or your precious "black boys and girls" as you call them feel the current situation isn't conducive to your living in ivory towers, there's the door straight back to Africa.
