Thought Police are Recruiting

Joe Messina

I love receiving emails from people responding to issues posted on my website, both positive and negative. Some pieces are written by fellow hosts, bloggers and other writers, but all are issues worth discussing.

I recently posted one about the “birther” issue. There are still investigations as to President Obama’s birthplace. The only people who accept 100 percent that Obama is hiding nothing about his birth, his school years, and his true love for this country are the ones who think right-wing, Bible-believing, conservatives like me should not have the right to freedom of speech simply because we don’t think like them.

Yup. The “thought police” are out in force. One of these thought police actually posted on Facebook that I was racist, and the single, simple proof was that I questioned this president’s birthplace.

The logic of the left always astounds me. Would that same conclusion hold true if the president were white? The educated left doesn’t need dictionaries or thesauruses because words mean only what they want them to mean. Period.

FYI. By law, since his mother was an American citizen, he is an American Citizen; regardless of whether or not he was born in the US or not. Also, regardless of whether or not his father was a US citizen; he is a US citizen by virtue of the fact that his mother was a citizen. She was negligent by not reporting his birth to the closest US Embassy and filing a Report of US Citizen's Birth Abroad form.

"Would that same conclusion hold true if the president were white?"

The right wing wacko, Ted Cruz of TexAss, was born in Canada from a Cuban father. Sounds familiar? Will the right wing birthers go after him too? Some how, I don't think so.

Hey Obama birthers, SNAP OUT OF IT!

Anon 3:22, if that were true there wouldn't have been any issue with where he was born. The fact is she was married to a foreigner and living overseas. If he was born outside the US he is not considered a native born citizen.

George Orwell warned us of something like this in his book 1984 time to take heed

Obama is half white. Anyone white dislikes him can only be accused of being half racist.

3:22,

That's not accurate. According to the law at the time (and it might still be), for a person born abroad to be considered American, either both parents must be American citizens, or one birth parent must have been a citizen for 10 years, 5 of which must be since the age of 18. (I may be slightly off, but that's close.) If Obama was born in Kenya, then by that criteria he would not qualify. But if born in Hawaii, he would be considered an American citizen.

That's why where he was born matters so much.

And of course, that doesn't even address the question of what happened regarding his citizenship after he was adopted by Soetoro in Indonesia.

Luke,

You are not only off, but way off.

The time restrictions are not on the length of citizenship, but length of residency.

See: http://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents

So does homeschooling , brainwashing children with anti-government mantras, silly religious beliefs, and anti-social behaviors. More guns! More Bibles! More illiteracy!

1:58,

That's not "way off", but I stand corrected. Residency (actually, presence in the U.S.) is the controlling factor. Also, I was off on the age requirement. It's 5 years after the 14th birthday, not the 18th.

Here is the applicable standard from that link:

--------------------

The parents are married at the time of birth and the U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the U.S. or its territories for a period of at least ten years at some time in his or her life prior to the birth, at least five of which were after his or her 14th birthday.

If the U.S. citizen parent spent time abroad in any of the following three capacities, this can also be counted towards the physical presence requirement:

• Serving honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces;
• Employed with the U.S. Government; or
• Employed with certain international organizations.

Additionally, time spent abroad by the U.S. citizen parent while the U.S. citizen parent was the unmarried son or daughter and a member of the household of a person who meets any of the three conditions listed above can also be counted.

--------------------

My point still holds. Obama's mother was 18 at the time he was born, thus not meeting the "5 years after 14th birthday" standard. If Obama was not born in the U.S., he is not a citizen by birth.

A bit late now at the close of the Obama regime.
