Must not mention that some people are critical of black/white marriages

I'm betting that the relatives of Nicole Brown Simpson are

If you were awake on Tuesday, you heard or read or divined something about what Richard Cohen wrote on Monday.
Cohen writes a weekly political column for the estimable Washington Post, WaPo to the in crowd. And on Monday he said this:

"People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when considering the mayor-elect of New York – a white man married to a black woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?)"

That caused the pundits, bloggers, tweeters – and columnists – to hit their keyboards with a fervor not seen since Miley Cyrus got cheeky with Robin Thicke. Even fellow WaPo columnist Ezra Klein, jumped in to critique his colleague’s piece.

The tweets were merciless. Reuters columnist Jack Schafer tweeted that, “Cohen just wrote his resignation letter.” Syndicated advice columnist Margot Howard tweeted, “Richard Cohen AND his editor should be let go. Cohen only has 2 options: to plead dementia or that he was drunk.” And from Matt O’Brien, senior associate editor at The Atlantic, “Who doesn’t have to repress a gag reflex when they read Richard Cohen?”

The problem was not what Cohen wrote is that not that it was intolerant. It was that the statement is dishonest on its face, and attempts to paint all those with "conventional" views.

Apparently, it's considered "conventional" to be racist, homophobic, anti-marriage, and anti-child. What convention does Mr. Cohen think he's speaking for?

Is Mrs. DeBlasio, (even though she doesn't use that name) showing us that homosexuality is something that can simply be abandoned and changed for the sake of expediency?

I'm with you Stan.
What does he mean by 'conventional views'? Obviously he thinks that everyone with 'conventional views' is a narrow-minded racist bigot.
Typical patronising attitude of many journalists to middle-America.

"Conventional" does imply the well-established majority view, and the majority of people have indeed been narrow-minded, bigoted and willingly ignorant. That's why there is a Constitution to protect all us from the "tyranny of the majority".
