I get the impression that this was simply a vindictive prosecution based on the fact that the Federal goverenment didn't like Stagliano's libertarian politics or his donations to libertarian thinktanks.
Larry Flynt, publisher of "Hustler" walked away (or wheeled himself away) from an obscenity prosecution in 1999 so the Stagliano prosecution never had much hope. It was prosecution as punishment.

I read that Stagliano's films featured enemas and some really nasty stuff. Is it obscene? I don't know. Does it matter? No it doesn't.
If what happens between two adults? Your response is somewhat interesting, but it doesn't answer the questions.
Just because a person has the right to do something does not make it right to do.

Your question is really not answerable without any context. Is the image of an adult, or is it of a child? Is it intended to instruct or educate? Is it intended to convey beauty? Is it intended to insult? Is it intended to arouse? Are adults viewing it or are children viewing it?
While on one hand it may be "just a naked body" but on the other, the morals and ethics of a society constrain how it is perceived.

Is it wrong with having materials featuring adults that are designed to arouse other adults?
