Must not advertise apartments to let?
That seems to be the plan in corrupt NYC. The New York state legislature has apparently been "got at" by big hotel owners who don't like competition and appears set to ban short-term subletting of their apartments by private owners in NYC. Details here.
I doubt that the ban would stand a 1st Amendment challenge but the corrupt Albany politicians will feel quite free to flout the constitution in the knowledge that no little guy could afford to take the matter to court.

As a life-long resident of NYC, the "other Left coast", i find it amusing how people think Chicago is the nations most corrupt city. Apparently, they haven't been here. NYC's government is "totally" controlled by leftist, Democrat jews, as is the state government in Albany. The result has been endless incompetence and corruption.
But that incompetence and corruption, even at the stagering degree found here, is nothing when compared to the totale lack of mental competence on the part of NYC voters. In this town, the people would elect a parking meter for public office, so long as it was a leftist, Democrat parking meter!
The greed of New York politicians is infinite. Say I rent my apartment and someone gives me $500. Do I not go out and spend that money? Does my spending that money not help the economy? But now if I were to live in New York I would be treated like a criminal just for renting my apartment for two days.
This is insane, everyone knows hotels in New York are expensive which is why most people can't afford to visit New York unless they stay in somebody's apartment.
You know what? Screw New York! I can go to Las Vegas and stay at decent hotels like Circus Circus for $30 a night or even nicer places like The Luxor for $80. Las Vegas also has buffets for $10, shows for $50 to $150, free drinks at the blackjack tables, free attractions at every hotel, amazing views at death valley, the Hoover Damn, and you can even rent a machine gun and shoot it for $30 to $50.
Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge? I can see that in Las Vegas, they have replicas at the New York New York hotel. So screw you, NYC. I ain't visiting your rotten apple anytime soon.
