School Officials in Mass. Town Won't Let Students Recite Pledge of Allegiance

How Leftists hate America!
"When Sean Harrington entered his freshman year at Arlington High School, he noticed something peculiar: There were no American flags in the classrooms, and no one recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

So Harrington enlisted the aid of his fellow students, and now, three years later, they have succeeded in getting flags installed in the classrooms. But the pledge still will not be recited.

The Arlington, Mass., school committee has rejected the 17-year-old's request to allow students to voluntarily recite the Pledge of Allegiance, because some educators are concerned that it would be hard to find teachers willing to recite it, according to a report in the Arlington Patch.

Harrington said the recitation would have been strictly voluntary. "If we can't find one teacher who is willing to say the pledge, then the system we have is cracked," he told FOX News Radio, noting that a number of teachers signed his petition.

There is a very simple solution to this situation. Cut off "all" govt. funding to this school. That shouldn't bother the communists who make-up the schools staff, since that money comes from the country the flag represents. If they hate the country and it's flag, surely they must also hate the federal hand-outs as well. Right? If that's done, you can expect to see these EduNazi's change their position in under 3 minutes.

There is another lesson to be learned here. This is the result of parents being too busy, too distracted, and too stupid to know what their children are being taught, and by whom.

I agree with the student, but at the same time... why does it matter whether or not any teachers want to recite it? It's not all that hard to learn the words, so they really shouldn't need someone leading the group, as it were.

I heard an interview on the radio today with the student. Apparently it's part of Massachusetts state law that flags be displayed in all classrooms, and that the Pledge be recited and led by a teacher or administrator(but not mandatory for all students to participate). Apparently Sean has several notable names on his petition, including Sen John Kerry. which pleasantly surprised me. So apparently MA state law doesn't even sway these morons in charge (even though they're the ones always screaming for more laws)

Daniel, it matters because of the example it sets for the students. And, if they were unwilling to recite the pledge, you can bet these teachers weren't praising the flag or the country to their students, except on payday.

Also, federal law mandates the flag be flown on all government buildings, which includes public schools, even in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.

Daniel, the teachers/administrators in that school don't just refuse to recite the pledge, they refuse to even allow time for it.

No doubt if a bunch of pupils stood up at the start of the day and started reciting it, those students'd be sent to the principal for punishment. After all, that's what you do when pupils disturb your teaching time and time again for some reason.

They'd be thrown out of school, suspended, failed for their classes, anything to ensure they either quit that school or have the hardest time possible, ending them without a diploma or degree.

Anon 3:42, you are right. It's exactly what the school would do, but that's why God created lawyers. (or was it Satan?)
