Filipina sex not funny

As I read it, the skit is actually mocking Northerners. There is prejudice against Northerners in Britain the way there is prejudice against Southerners in the USA.
"One of Britiain's top comedians has got himself involved in a diplomatic incident in Manila today after Filipino officials failed to see the funny side of a sketch that mocked domestic workers living in Britain.

The Philippines' Foreign Secretary summoned the British Ambassador to explain why the BBC had broadcast a comedy skit involving Harry Enfield, in which a Filipina housemaid was cajoled into having sex with a British suburbanite.

Raul Gonzalez, the country's justice minister, also spoke out pledging to sign a petition that demanded an apology from the national broadcaster. "I don't like our fellow Filipinos to be insulted," he said.

The petition has been set up by a group called the Philippine Foundation, which is calling for the re-education of the BBC after the episode of Harry and Paul was broadcast last month. It says: "This particular sketch is completely disgraceful, distasteful and a great example of gutter humour."

Then the government of the Philippines should ask itself why so many of their citizens are obliged to go abroad looking for menial work!!

I thought that was hillarious!

I'm not a fan of British humor, except maybe Benny Hill, but I do know something about Filipina maids. The skit may be a bit degrading but it's based in truth. That's all I want to say about that without getting crude.

Filipina? Is that different than being a Philipino? Or, are some here incapable of speaking "non-PC"?

Anon 4 - I don't know what you are talking about.
My understanding is that a Filipina is a female native of the Philipines. A male would be a Filipino...

Its not about PC or non-PC.
Its about correct usage or incorrect...

I would like to thank the BBC show Harry and Paul for inadvertently mirroring back to Philippine society its atrocious short-comings.

To remind us we are a nation with over 12 million overseas workers and migrants in 193 countries and territories. To remind us that our piss-poor governments of the past three decades have been whoring its people to work with little rights abroad. To remind us that the billion dollar remittances they send home, the third largest in the world, are earned in quite literally blood, sweat and tears. To remind us that migrant labour deserve rights and protection. To remind us that the few entrenched elites in this country are determined to keep the many poor hopeless, ignorant and without opportunities that they would brave working in Iraq at the height of the war. To remind us that very young Filipinas are trafficked out of the country by the tens of thousands. To remind us that every once in a while, they come home in body bags.

So, yes. Thank you Harry Enfield. Here's to more laughs.
