We read:
"A freshman Republican lawmaker resigned because his wife sent "an offensive and racist" email to the Democratic state Senate campaign of nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, a GOP official acknowledged Monday.
Delany and his wife, Jennifer Delany, are white. Lewis, a political novice who's among the greatest athletes of all time, is black.
Jennifer Delany's email to Lewis' campaign said, in part, "Imagine having dark skin and name recognition and the nerve to think that equaled knowing something about politics."
"Former Assemblyman Pat Delany's wife inexplicably sent an offensive and racist email in response to a routine email from Carl Lewis' campaign; her actions were inexcusable," Layton said.
Lewis is running for state Senate in New Jersey's 8th Legislative District. Delany was part of the opposing GOP Assembly slate in the district.

I suppose the email was a bit nasty but it was also a fair comment. Does being able to run fast make you a good representative? And is there any doubt that his skin color would have influenced his nomination? An inexperienced know-nothing became POTUS because of his skin color. The racism lies in nominating dummies because of their skin color -- not in criticizing that.

Jennifer Delany should have realized that today, America has sunk to the point where "true and factual" statements are considered "offensive and racist", especially when those words are used by one group to get money and political power. Of course, to most blacks, anything that is said which they dislike or disagree with, is "racist". Being "offended" has become a VERY profitable industry.
Funny, how the fact that the un-political Mr. Lewis is running in NJ's black areas, knowing full-well that his skin color will carry the day for him, is (not) seen as racist. So much for equality.
Rather than pull the race card, the Lewis campaign should have responded with a populist bend. “What makes you think a white cowboy actor knows anything about politics? Or a white peanut farmer? A Latino farm worker? It appears the Delany camp believes that the only people fit to hold office are white lawyers from the ivy league school and the rest of us peasants should sit down and be silent.” Which I think (although slightly inaccurate) may have garnered them more points than the old tired boring standby of.. “U is wasist..!!!”
While I think sending the email was a bit dumb (although I have some sympathy with its contents) why has Mr Delany resigned because his wife sent a stupid email...
Does society assume that husbands are responsible for all of their wife's actions?
Today? Yes, but only if it's a Republican.
