Dan Rather: "Articulate" Obama Couldn’t Even "Sell Watermelons"

We read:
"I await the silence and the excuses from the media. Obama will tell us how Rather has always been a man of "good intentions," and always on the "right side of the issues."

If a conservative broadcaster had said that, the shrieks of "racism" would be resounding from coast to coast.

For any non-American readers: Blacks are popularly believed to love fried chicken and watermelons. So any time anyone associates either food with a black it is "sterotyping" and hence "racist". Nobody mentions what has been known among psychologists since the 1930s: That stereotypes usually have a "kernel of truth". See here and here for summaries of the research. But truth is a very secondary consideration for Leftists. Projecting their own hostile impulses onto others is much more important.

Actually, a fact can not be racist. It can make you feel uncomfortable, exposed, or embarrassed, but in the end, it's just the truth. And, as we all know, Rather has been a hard-core Leftist his entire professional life, so don't hold your breath waiting for him to be rebuked by his fellow Leftists in the MSM.

The southern expression that Rather butchered is: "That man can't sell ice cold watermelon to nig**s on a hot day with the police stoping traffic for him." Very racist in the original context and would get any conservative lambasted.

OK, kiddies, let's not forget that Obama is just as much White as he is Black.

Anon 2:20, would that saying still be considered "very racist", if it were said by a black person? I think it's safe to assume that it would not, which means it's not racist.

As Jon phrased it in his comments to a story on PC Watch on February 5, "If telling the truth makes you racist, that sounds like praise for racism." Of course unless a statement contains a hostile value judgment toward individuals based on their race, then the leftist cries of "racism", really amount to code for "Stop! You're getting too close to the unwelcome truth!", and are not objecting to the real thing.

You have tested it and writing form your personal experience or you find some information online?

Anon 6:31 AM said, "..."would that saying still be considered "very racist", if it were said by a black person? I think it's safe to assume that it would not, which means it's not racist."

And therein lies the complete hypocrisy of the whole "hate speech" issue.

If what's being said by one group is considered "hateful" then it should be considered "hateful" if said by all groups.

Anon 4:07, I'll go a step further. I'd say that the oft-touted 'Equal Protection" clause of the Constitution would demand your point:

If what's being said by one group is considered "hateful" then it should be considered "hateful" if said by all groups.

I really like when people are expressing their opinion and thought. So I like the way you are writing
