Must not mention black food preferences

A California school is under fire after planning a Black History Month lunch menu that included fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon.

The planned menu at Carondelet High School for Girls, a private institution in Concord, was met with outrage from students and parents, according to NBC Bay Area.

School Principal Nancy Libby said the items will be removed from the menu, and the campus will hold a diversity assembly for faculty and students.

"I'd like to apologize for the announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members," Libby said in an apology letter. "Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes."

Black History Month is itself a form of racial stereotyping. And what other types of food would be appropriate for meals - curries?

Where I grew up in an Italian, Polish, German neighborhood of Milwaukee, cornbread (polenta) was an Italian dish often served with chicken. How does cornbread, chicken, and watermelon become a black thing?

Polenta is served more often in some parts of Italy than pasta.

yo, yo, yo, you forgot the Cristal!

But seriously, next time anyone tries to serve Sauerbraten and beer during German History Day or whatever, I'm pulling my Sig Sauer.

You would think after the Fuzzy incident after grabbing a Tiger by the tail, people, especially educators, would learn you have to walk on eggshells for favored groups. Next St. Patrick's Day, I may wear the Orange and watch out for anyone starting a donnybrook.
