SCOTUS refuses Kentucky Ten Commandments case

We read:
"The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear more arguments in a case in which courts struck down displays of the Ten Commandments in the Pulaski and McCreary County courthouses, the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky announced Tuesday.

... The counties posted copies of the Biblical laws in 1999, but a federal judge said the displays were an improper government endorsement of religion and issued an injunction barring the counties from keeping them on the courthouse walls."

I guess that they are tired of the barrage of cases of this sort. One might however have hoped that the Roberts court would have taken the opportunity to narrow the definition of what constitutes the "establishment" of a religion. Putting up copies of the ten commandments clearly establishes nothing.

Why should ancient Hebrew law be displayed on US public buildings today?

At my job they post the ten commandments in English.

By the way, 5:10AM, the ten commandments have inspired most legal system. Show me a country that doesn't ban killing, stealing and giving false witness?

The ten commandments are NOT religion. They are, however, an undesired reminder of good behavior to the corrupt ruling class.

PIL still believes in fairy tales. Loser.

On that basis any moral guidance can be construed as endorsing religion and therefore may not be practised by governments. Hence the lack of morals practised by many politicians, judges and other public servants. So much for role models.

Displaying the Ten Commandments clearly establishes religion because the government, by displaying them, is selecting among three different sectarian versions of them (Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant), which differ significantly. Selecting one of these to display by definition excludes the other two and implies a de facto government endorsement of that faith.

So I'm a loser because I believe in the 10 commandments? What do you believe in, atheist? Global warming? Obamacare? Socialism? The state? Celebrities?

Everyone worships a God, whether it's a real one or a fake one.

Oh, and as for you paying taxes, well, 90% of Americans believe in God so don't tell me we have to bend over for the 10% that doesn't.

There is more than one version of the "10" Commandments in the OT and they cover more than ten! Only a few deal with moral or ethical behavior, and the others with worshipping the Hebrew god Yahweh to the exclusion of all other gods.
