Christian-hating movie is a flop

Sad that Fred Phelps is the only one who had the guts to protest the movie
"A controversial film telling the story of a hate-filled preacher who murders people he believes are gay has sparked protests in the U.S.

Members of Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas protested at the premier screening of Red State at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. But they were met with an army of counter-protesters who supported the fictional film - and condemned the church-goers for their 'hate speech'. [But the film's hate speech about Christians is OK, apparently]

The film, which focuses on the congregation of a preacher who kidnaps and murders people he believes are homosexual, received 'good but not great reaction'.

Despite the controversy outside the cinema, Mr. Smith was unsuccessful in finding a distributor for his latest project.

The presence of Phelps is enough to stain anyone else who would protest the film. Besides, it's better to just let the stinker of a film bury itself in deserved obscurity than to provide it publicity bu protesting it.

I will agree with Sharp. I wouldn't even know such a movie existed, except you put this article here. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Are they trying to raise awareness, or sympathy? Part of the reason Harry Potter became so famous is all the free publicity it recieved from protesters.

Change "preacher" to "iman" and the film would never have been made.

Well I have a couple of problems with this article:

1. The movie is not yet a flop. It has not yet been put in front of actual audiences. Right now its only making its way through the festival circuit. Once it goes into regular markets, then a determination can be made about its relative floppiness.

2. The article states that Kevin Smith never found a distributor. That is true in the same way that Moses came up with a game plan for humanity after seeing a burning bush. Smith never intended on selling his movie. In fact, after the movie was over KS made an announcement that he was self-distributing and would provide a roadmap for other indie writer/directors to follow so they would not have to he so beholden to the studios.

And rather than act like a pussy liberal, I will use thought and reason to determine whether or not it is a bad movie. I guess I could just say the movie is terrible without seeing it but I guess god didn't see fit to provide me with incredible foresight the way he apparently imparted to many or you here.
