NJ Assemblyman Apologizes for Calling Philadelphia Eagles ‘Gaybirds’ in Facebook Status‏

Homosexuality is supposed to be a good thing and yet it also offensive to say someone is homosexual? Very confused! What happened to "gay pride"?
A Giants fan and Jersey City police detective who represents his Legislative District in the New Jersey State Assembly has been in hot water since posting a message on his Facebook profile Sunday night after the Giants’ shocking win over the Green Bay Packers:

“We are not going to just lay down, we come to play. Who the hell do you think we are the DALLAS COWGIRLS OR THOSE GAYBIRDS FROM PHILLY… NO WE ARE THE NEW YORK GIANTS.”

Assemblyman Charles Mainor‘s ’GAYBIRDS‘ and ’COWGIRLS’ comments have been criticized as anti-gay and anti-woman.

Steven Goldstein, chair and CEO of gay-rights group Garden State Equality, told The Jersey Journal Monday that Mainor’s comments were “inadvisable,” adding that they “hurt a lot of people.”

Mainor has apologized for the comment, even though he says he only wrote half of it. The Journal reports:

“Mainor was in Jersey City last night at a party to watch the Giants play the Green Bay Packers when he posted almost the entire above message on his Facebook page, he said. A friend of his sat at the computer and added the comment about the ‘gaybirds from Philly,’ Mainor said.

For radical gay activists, part of their plan to be legislated into, and accepted as, a special class of citizen, with rights and protections above and beyond those given to the rest of society, is to use every single opportunity they see to complain about "discrimination" no matter how unfounded and bizarre their "claim" may be.

Someday, society at large will wake-up to this phony attempt at "privileged class" status.

I don't believe that guy's story for an instant.

Anybody that is hurt by those comments probably doesn't deserve to live.

And the Eagles aren't "gaybirds", they're "panty liners" - they've got wings.

JonJay is again being disingenuous when he claims to be so tolerant of others - "gaybird" in that situation was clearly not in any way meant to be kind or even neutral, while "homosexual" ought to be neutral, and "gay" may or may not be positive depending of course on who says it and why.

Annon 6:14,
What difference does it make whether or not speech is "kind or neutral" in determining whether or not it is "allowed". In my opinion, speech that is neutral is unnecessary speech because if it is neutral, it is not saying anything. Why bother. If what you say doesnt't offend someone, you haven't said anything, especially these days with the country made up of thin skinned weinies.

Out here in the southwest USA, a "cowgirl" is not an insult. A cowgirl is a woman who likes country music, wears women's cowboy hats, women's cowboy boots, etc. Its just a fashion style, albeit a popular one.

People aren't offensive to each other all the time because life would then be miserable. I can't imagine what our society would be like if everybody went around insulting each other all day, and if all our music was gangster rap and satanic death metal, all our movies were porn and slasher films, and art consisted of nothing but "Piss Christ" (look it up).

I don't know about you, but I live in this place called "Reality" and in it we have to get along (somewhat) well enough to have jobs and relationships. You are welcome to visit any time you wish.

THe comments IMHO were pretty innocuous and not at all unusual - particularly in the world of sports trash-talk.
The only people who would be offended is those who are desperately seeking something to be offended about.
