God Is an Imaginary Friend’: Atheist Billboard Ignites Controversy in Colorado‏

If Christians are free to spread their gospel then atheists must also be free to spread their gospel. The wacky thing is that atheists feel the need to spread a gospel at all.

I suspect that these are not atheists at all but rather anti-Christian Leftists who would never dare criticize Islam. Saudi Arabia is a much more religious place than the USA. Let them put their billboards up there and see how far they get
Atheists have a way with billboards. In fact, it’s one of the primary methods many non-believers use to communicate with the public at large. This is exactly the method a Denver, Colorado-based group, called Boulder Atheists, is using to spread its message. Reaction to the group’s newest billboard, which targets those who hold a belief in God, has ranged from giggles to anger.

Boulder Atheists has erected three billboards that each read, “God is an imaginary friend. Choose reality, it will be better for all of us.” This statement, which will clearly offend the religious, is not intended to start problems, the group says.

Abraham Aryan, a local businessman, isn‘t happy about the billboards’ presence. “Anything with a derogatory message I don’t think should spread around. But they’re welcome to do it,” Aryan said. “Welcome to America, that’s one of the beautiful things about living here is you can do that.”

Considering Boulder Atheists’ track record, the alliance of non-believers is certainly not likely to apologize or rescind. In the end, the group’s leaders have the free speech and freedom to post such messages, but they may not spark the discussion they’re hoping for by taking such a confrontational route.

Christians and Christian churches have plenty of signs, placards, flyers, billboards and even license-plates, etc. about their religion and the "Jesus Saves" variety, so why shouldn't atheists or anyone with a view about life or politics. As for why atheists should promote a "gospel", well if the majority believed the Earth was flat and a minority didn't and disliked how the whole of society was dominated by flat-earth believers, don't you think they would be justified in trying to oppose such a belief one way or the other?

The only thing atheists are hoping for is, attention. Their preaching is no different than that of religious groups who they claim to hate. Personally, i'm against (any) group that forces their beliefs on me.

"The wacky thing is that atheists feel the need to spread a gospel at all"

Because militant atheists are evangelicals at heart.

Like Christians don't have or have had plenty enough attention, or even continue now to command attention!

And Levy "is against (any) group that forces their beliefs on me" - how ironic when Christianity so dominates a supposedly secular society (US), and where Presidential candidates do not dare to say they are non-Christian, and some even claim to be sympathetic to fundamentalist Christians (ie. pandering to the corresponding voters).
Yes, many dangerous people got into power through appealing to popular predjudices - need I name names?

It is free speech. They have a right to their opinion. Opinions and actions based on those opinions have consequences; which is why it is so critical to make sure those opinions are true.

Their approach brings to mind this old saying:

"You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

Why do you care?

Why should religious people get their panties in a twist over those billboards? Atheists have the same right to spread their gospel as any other group in the world.

If one doesn't care for a given point, ignore it.

Yeah Dean people should just ignore what they disagree with and stick their heads in the sand. Unfortunately, there's the danger that their indifference and complacency will lead to their head being pulled out and their ass stuck in jail or worse just for having the wrong opinion or background (do you read history or the news?)

Sorry Dean, I think you were just trying to support the right to hold alternative views, which is quite fair-minded. 4:16

Much like those jive-ass TV preachers.

Evolution is still a unproven theory

Dear Bird Brain, You are obviously too ignorant to know that scientific "theories" are not claiming to be proofs, they are the best possible explanations for phenomena currently available to research, and supported by the majority of accredited scientific authorities.
By the way, what "proof" do you have for your counter opinions, and what qualifications or research do you have to support it?

Dear annon 4:38 Its still calle a THEORY and has never been proven no matter what you hear from DISCOVER,TIME,NEWSWEEK,NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC,and PEOPLE magazines

Bird,

What is your alternative to the theory of evolution? God? Where is YOUR proof? It does not exist. The existence of god is not even a theory; it is just a grand illusion. Now, YOU GO AWAY BIRD. You're moronic comments just amuse me. I can't believe anyone is so damn ridiculous. You can now go back to banging your head with an oak board.

Attention theists! If you could see fit to stop trying to run this country (USA) according to your club handbook (bible) then I and the rest of the thinking folk might stop beating you over the head with the fact that your imaginary friend is imaginary. Till then we will continue to man the harpoons...

If you would release your death grip on your a priori claim and actually examine the evidence, you would discover that God does exist.

Of course "God" exists, if you define that term to suit youreself. The vaguer the term the more acceptable it becomes - like first cause of everything - but that says nothing more than there was a first cause of everything, or at least there had to be an explanation. Down-side is - no human can possibly know for sure or prove what that is!!!
