Naughty, naughty

It seems in poor taste to me but I think that about most modern art
"A huge poster of a Nazi swastika behind a 1940s-style naked pin-up model clad only in a Mickey Mouse-mask and stretched across a building has stirred controversy in Poznan, western Poland.

A new art gallery is using the work titled "NaziSexyMouse" by Italian artist Max Papeschi to advertise an exhibition, but a city councillor has tried to take legal action, saying it violates a law banning the display of Nazi symbols.

"For Poles, the swastika symbolises the suffering and death of more than six million Poles," said councillor Norbert Napieraj.

But the public prosecutor's spokeswoman Malgorzata Mikos-Fita told AFP on Friday that no legal action would be taken against the gallery for publicly displaying the poster as "it did not break the law."

Gallery curator Maria Czarnecka said that "we don't have to remove it as it's a work of art. If it were just a swastika, it would be propagating Nazi symbols. The law allows such symbols to be used in academic and artistic contexts."

It may be legal, but it's extremely offensive to the Polish people who suffered under German occupation during the war.

I wonder if Poland bans the hammer and sickle, and all things Soviet. After all, the Nazis and Soviets jointly invaded and butchered the Pols.

Once again Poland shows it's more free than Germany and a lot of other places.
In Germany any use of Nazi symbols is verboten, even in academic context (you can't make a model aircraft of a WW2 German aircraft with accurate markings for example, even for display in a historical museum collection).

What's truly offensive is Booby presuming to speak for Polish people.

The rules in Germany were instituted by the Allies' de-nazification program, and after so many years in operation, the rules just remained after Germany got proper independence again after the re-unification ca.20 years ago

"But at the same time, you will never hear jews complain about or condemn Stalin for killing "far more" jews than Hitler ever did or could. Hmm... Birds of a feather?"

---What the hell are you talking about? The Jewish Defense League use to protest the soviets everytime they came to New York. Jewish writers have written tons about the purges Stalin had and the persecution of the state against religious people. Before the end of the soviet empire it was hard for Jews to leave the USSR, it took months just to get a passport, which sometimes was denied.

As for German's paranoia, well, since that's the country that started two world wars that killed millions of people, perhaps they should have some paranoia.

In fact, I think they're starting to forget their history. Seeing how they embrace their Muslim aliens while turning against Israel only shows you that Germany is ready for a fourth reich.

"Bobby, do you ever see/hear any outrage or protest by jews when they see the old hammer and cycle flag of the USSR, as opposed to what they do when they see a Swastika?"

---Well Stalin didn't make Jews wear a Jewish star, he didn't put them in ghettos and the prisons in Siberia didn't have gas chambers. So while both nazism and communism are evil, one was developed to target the Jews exclusively while the other targeted everyone that was deemed an enemy of the state.

"Thanks to jewish pressure, is the world more familiar with Nazi jew-killers, or the Communist jew-killers?"

---With the nazi-jew killers. However, plenty of books have been written about soviet atrocities, why do they not sell as well as German atrocities I don't know.

"The Nazis didn't target the jews exclusively - anyone considered of an inferior race or degenerate, eg. gypsies and slavs, homosexuals, and those with views about art and politics etc. contrary to the Nazis official line."

---You're right, they targeted several people. HOWEVER, Hitler did not give the Jews a chance to end their persecution. With Stalin maybe he would send you to Siberia, maybe not, but with Hitler if you where Jewish, gay, gypsy, etc, you have absolutely no freaking chance.
