Google bigotry keeps getting worse

I think the time must come when Christians and conservatives stop using Google and do their searches via Yahoo or live.com
"Search engine Google is facing a global backlash from internet users over its refusal to carry advertisements for a Christian group. The Christian Institute is sueing Google on the grounds it is infringing the Equality Act 2006. The group accused the popular search engine of having a "warped value system" after pointing out that it allows advertisements for "pornography and instruments of violence". Websites selling knuckle-dusters and ouija boards, as well as dating sites designed for married people who want to have affairs, are advertised on Google.

But the company turned down the non-denominational Christian charity that wanted to pay Google so that whenever the word "abortion" was typed in, its link would appear on the right hand side of the screen. The link would have read: "UK abortion law news and views on abortion from the Christian Institute."

Google said it had a policy of declining sites which mixed abortion with religious views. It does, however, accept ads for abortion clinics, secular pro-abortion sites and secularist sites which attack religion. Entering the word "abortion" into the search area immediately brings the user to adverts for Marie Stopes abortion clinics.

I cringe whenever someone says they Googled something. I dropped Google long ago and started using "Yahooed" as my search verb.

Any company that takes a political stance on something risks the wrath of people that disagree. In this highly polarized political atmosphere, it seems a poor business decision to antagonize so many potential customers.

I long ago abandoned Google for other websearchers, mostly beacuse I understand they increase their ad revenue based on the hits they get. They don't support my ideas - I don't support them. Seems like a fair example of market forces at work. If other conservatives did the same, who knows?

I dumped Google a year or so ago over this kind of thing. Ask.com has a very nice toolbar that does everything Google's does without being 'evil' like Google is.

Is finding out that google is simply another far-left entity still surprising to some? Remember, Al (we've only got days to live) Gore is a major stock holder!.... GSP

I only use Google for non-important things, but sparingly. Google is responsible for the demise of my desktop pc. It crashed my desktop, taking most of my media with it.
I use yahoo or live search for my main searches.
No more no less.
because I fear the same fate with befall on my other puter.
Google is one with lefty wackies.
For those who still Google, use Google with caution.
That's my advice for this evening

My lover is a lawyer who does Google's advertising contracts for price-haggling buyers of sponsored (paid) links. I'll secretly tape record her response to this article. Uh, well, she threatened to cut my balls off in about a hundred ways if I post the actual audio, even though I intended to change her voice to sound like a robot...sorry. The conversation was about 20 minutes.

That she just cut me a check for $20K, just for the hell of it, and pays the rent on my design studio, and owns a million dollars of Google stock, well, I'm a little biased to not jump on the Google-bashing bandwagon, though it's fun to find out about Google culture, to figure out why besides not drug testing (like Apple), it is the MOST DESIRABLE COMPANY TO WORK FOR IN THE WORLD. For instance, that the computer dudes are called "engineers" and really are recruited right out of college and put into a university-like (responsibility free) environment at the peak of their creativity? Recently the owners had to rein them in a bit though, to FIX SEARCH before adding a million new features to stop "search engine spam."

I am also allowed to tell you that Facebook is actively draining talent from Google, even though they have yet to turn a profit.

It was Yahoo! and not Google that revealed identities that put certain bloggers in jail in China. Google does NOT do that, though they must obey local laws.

I just searched for Abortion on Google, and the last sponsored link of eight on the first page was for a RELIGIOUS pro-life site called PleaseThinkAgain.com that quotes on its title page: "Through God's Grace, we save babies lives and shelter their young mothers while providing education and ongoing compassionate support services." THUS THE CLAIM THAT GOOGLE HAS A WRITTEN OR UNWRITTEN POLICY ABOUT "CONSERVATIVE" VIEWS ON ABORTION is a smear, and simply untrue. Oddly, it first linked to a blank re-routing page, so maybe *this* religious site learned a hack to get through Google's AUTOMATED sponsored link filter?

However, Google has a HUGE policy document, which my internal agent claims is NOT a printed internal document, but is kept online, as a publicly available Policy Statement, which she linked me to, and which turns out to be 99% AUTOMATED. To sue Google, you'd have to do it in California, where they are incorporated, not where my babe works, in NYC.

Their RATHER POLITICALLY *CONSERVATIVE* policy is spelled out here:
https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guidelines.cs&topic=9271&subtopic=9279

Major policies against alcohol, drugs, escorts, gambling, porn, etc. Nowhere does it claim abortion cannot be combined with religion. Only VERY LARGE clients get to my chick's level. The way it works is just like the Yellow Pages: marketing extroverts PURSUE clients instead of clients approaching Google, whereas minor client listings are UTTERLY AUTOMATED. You pay for the number of clicks your sponsored link gets.

BEING A PRIVATE COMPANY, GOOGLE CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL IT WANTS TO DO, INCLUDING NOT ACCEPTING ANY PAID POLITICAL ADVERTISING even though they are for one thing NOT even classified by law as a "Media Company"...FASCIST regulation of THE MEDIA INDUSTRY having not yet caught up to Net firms, Google is immune to the "fairness doctrine" that forces TV news to put on whacko conspiracy theorists to balance any reasonable arguments presented (like Dan Rather did).

I asked her once, to stick John Ray's stuff higher up in the ratings, and she developed a dark angry look, which got darker each of the ten times I mentioned it.

So what DOES the Bible say about abortion? For that matter, besides the philosophically Buddhist rants of Jesus, what DOES it say that isn't UTTER POPPYCOCK about *any* medical or scientific issue? Oh, I remember now, there were no dinosaurs. And a mere TWO sexes of all animals (and plants and land-based bacteria and butterflies and worms too, etc.) were put on a small wooden ship for a month, and magically got along, never a tiger needing to eat a bunny. Oh wait, they must have added extra bunnies.

This blog is like stupidville. NiceDoggie.net, who is VERY pro-life, I much more respect for, since most of those guys are no-nonsense military types. That's why I had my Google chick cut Misha a check for a grand, via PayPal.

That said, believe it or not, many of us "conservatives" take humorous insult at being grouped with Bible Thumping idiots. Have any of you even read about the history of the Church? The Church was the most fascist movement in all of history. The Environmental movement is merely trying to rekindle the idea of "orignal sin" with mere slide shows by Gore. Now go visit a real Gothic Cathedral. Did you know the world's largest one is two blocks from me? It's called the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. And in the stain-glassed windows are rockets and TV sets. But they can't afford to build the main tower, so it's just a facade, not the spike in the sky it was designed to be.

I left Google for Ask two years ago becuase of their political bias. Just switched to Live Search recently. Yahoo is not a choice becuase of their support of Chinese censorship.

whenever someone has me over to fix their computer, I'll remove the google tool bar if they have one and place google as a prohibited site in their security settings. I hate that tool bar!

Anonymous said...

Whether I agree with their choices or not, Google is a business and should be allowed to choose which ads they accept. They should not be required to accept ads from anyone willing to pay for them.

In our computer store we have been removing Google toolbars for years. All I have to do is mention that Google censors by content and they all want it off. Liberals and conservatives alike in this neck of the woods don't care for censors whether on their side or not.

Its like what i read in two cases where a student in one school named ELLIOT CHAMBERS was told he coulndnt wear a STREGHT PRIDE T-shirt becuase gays might be offended or another stedent who was ordered by school offials to go home and remove his NRA T-shirt but in both cases the parents sued the school officials in court and had the speech code struck down. THEY SHOULD MAKE THE PRINCIPALS OF THOSE SCHOOL WEAR PINK TUTUS TO REALY HUMILATE THEM
