U.S. Air Force Says Painting that References Bible Verse Violates Rules

Freedom of religion for Muslims only?

An inspirational painting that referenced a Bible verse has been removed from a dining hall at Mountain Home Air Force Base after an anti-religion group filed a complaint.

The painting featured a medieval crusader and referenced Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation called the painting “repugnant” and an “overt display of Christian nationalism.”

They allegedly received a complaint from someone at the base who said the picture made “me feel terribly uncomfortable, disheartened and disappointed.”

“I have been extremely disturbed and shocked by a clearly Christian picture of religious supremacy very prominently hanging in the dining facility of our Air Force Base, the unidentified complainant states in an email. “I and countless other Airmen were forced to look at this ‘Crusader/USAF’ painting while we ate.”

Col. Christopher Short, the commander of the 366th Fighter Wing told me the art work was removed as soon as he was made aware.

I am continually amazed at how little it takes to cause some people emotional distress and dismay. As for being forced to look at the painting - were there security police pointing guns at him and telling him to look at it or else?

If one doesn't want to look at the painting, don't look at it.

The painting literally illustrates how the Bible (or religion in general) can, and often has been, used as a cover or justification for whatever point of view or whatever organization that needs borrowed social "respectability".

How Orwellian! Warriors are peacemakers. Maybe for a short time, but the reactions inevitably build up and a new cycle of warfare or violence then breaks out - ad infinitum!

Dean, this has nothing to do with "emotional distress and dismay". It has everything to do with giving a handful of radicals the ability to change long-standing policy and to dishonor and disrespect the strongly held beliefs of others.

It is a disgraceful display of weakness on the part of the US Air Force, and the Marxist govt. in DC, and an insult to the American people..

"the strongly held beliefs of others."

CORRECTION: "the strongly delusional held beliefs of others"

I know how terribly uncomfortable, disheartened and disappointed they are gonna be when they have to bow that knee, and confess with their tongue that Jesus Christ is Lord.

I don't think the outcry was about the biblical reference - I think it is equally about the Crusader image...

2:57 - are you suggesting that Jesus Christ is like some medieval king imposing submission from his wayward vassals?

I think you are correct. "Crusader" slaps directly in the face of Islam.

Anon 1:48 AM, no Jesus Christ does not impose submission. Any submission to Him is purely by choice of His followers, and to His followers, He is worthy of such submission

The picture with the crosses prominently displayed belongs in a Christian church, not in a dining hall.

No Jesus is not a medieval king, I was referencing what will occur at the Judgement.

There is a time that He will impose submission on those who have refused to bow knee and tongue confess He is Lord now. But on that day it will be too late for forgiveness.

11:06 AM evidently believes in the divine version of Stalinist Russia or a medieval kingdom. As with most with the religious mindset, they just transfer to the supposed divine realm a mirror image of human society and its hierarchies of power.

anonymous at 2:25am is obviously crazy as hell and doesn't know what he's talking about.

All you religious nuts are crazy as hell.

Philippians 2:9For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,10so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 14:11For it is written,
“AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME,
AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD.”

12So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God.

At least we're not bound for hell.

Let me give you a little real life scenario. You are gambling with something that you cannot afford to lose, your soul.

You go thru life rejecting God and His Son. At the end of your life you die, and suppose you are right and there is no God. You are worm food and that is all there is. You have lost nothing.

I go thru life accepting God and His Son. At the end of my life, I die, and supposing that you are right and there is no God, I am worm food and that is all there is. I have lost nothing either.

BUT, just suppose that I am right, that there is a God who sent His only Son to die for us. WHAT HAVE YOU LOST, AND WHAT HAVE I GAINED?

My situation is a win/win, while yours is a lose/lose. Think hard upon this, PLEASE!

Is 12:20 so ignorant he/she hasn't heard of "Pascal's Wager"? There aren't only two outcomes where one either wins or loses. There could be another kind of God of another religion that you didn't believe in all your life, or a God who've never heard of. Even if it's the God that you say you believe in, that God would know if you were just making a simple selfish bet, and thus not a very sincere believer! Your situation isn't a win/win, it's dumb/dumb!

Why do people quote passages from the Bible, as though it were some authority. It has no more authority than quoting the Koran, Shakespeare, or even Harry Potter!

Anonymous said...

Well, with your rejection, yours is a Hell/hell situation.

Anonymous said...

The Hell/Hell situation is sharing this planet with delusional crazies like you who believe in a fantasy paradise, and arrogant enough to believe they qualify for entry, even on the basis of a primitively calculated gamble!

Anonymous said...

Just keep repeating that as you are burning in the Hell that you don't believe in, I am real sure it will be great comfort to you.

Anonymous said...

I'd probably be burning right next to you, as your smug pharisaic attitude doesn't seem consistent with entry to any Heaven!

Anonymous said...

Not quite, you are the one that rejects God.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure you've got the right God? There are many possibilities. And what makes you think you don't deserve to go to "Hell". Do you really think that merely saying or claiming you "believe" in "God" is enough? Don't you think that sounds just a bit too easy? Don't you think you might have to be a very much improved person than the rather smug one your comments suggest? Are you just selfishly looking for a reward in Heaven, or are you genuinely a virtuous person? Whether or not there is a God or an afterlife, "Virtue is its own reward".

Anonymous said...

I do deserve to go to Hell, but that the great thing about God's mercy and Amazing Grace.

Anonymous said...

11:53 AM It sounds a bit like you're relying too much on the "Get out Hell" card that you think you automatically hold with merely claiming to be a Christian!

Anonymous said...

Not merely claiming, but definitely am a Christian, Bucko! True Christians freely profess their guilt and acknowledge the need for the Savior. Hellspawn like you have one destination, and it ain't up.

Anonymous said...

1:12 PM I don't think "true" Christians would be using terms like "Hellspawn" to address and pre-judge other fellow humans. That would be the prerogative of a divine agency not yours. Your so-called profession of guilt sounds very fake and calculated. I suspect you are in fact "Hellspawn". Do you even know what the Seven Deadly Sins are? "Pride" seems to suit you most!

Make sure and take along some sunblock, SPF 2 million, you're gonna need it.
