Naughty menu

Ms. Gillard

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has described a menu distributed at an opposition party fundraiser that made crude and derogatory comments about her body as "grossly sexist".

The menu was presented at a dinner for former minister and Liberal National Party election candidate Mal Brough.

It offered up "Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail - Small Breasts, Huge Thighs and a Big Red Box".

Opposition leader Tony Abbott condemned the incident, calling the menu "tacky".  "I condemn it, as Mal Brough has. We should all be bigger and better than that," he said. "We should be appealing to every Australian's best self as we go into this election."

The fundraising dinner, in late March, was attended by about 20 people, with shadow treasurer Joe Hockey as the guest of honour.

The menu card in question also mocked former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and two other Labor party lawmakers, as well as the Greens.

Both Mr Hockey and Mr Brough have told local media they do not recall having seen the menu.

Mr Brough - who has apologised - said the text was drawn up by a non-party member who was "deeply apologetic", the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Once again, we see an example of how the Left can, and does, say and do anything they please, no matter how outrageous, then simply offer an "apology" when called out for their actions or words. Would the Right get off so easily if the insult were aimed at a Leftist?

then simply offer an "apology" when called out for their actions or words.

Some things only need a mere apology. For example, name calling. This case strikes me as a good example. If we follow the Golden Rule, I think we should accept a genuine apology when one is given.

Part of the trick is that some people only pretend to apologize. "I'm sorry you're so stupid" is not a genuine apology. The real thing includes an admission that what was done was wrong and should not have been done.

I believe it was the restaurant owner who created the menu as a joke, unbeknownst to anyone else.

Luke,

A genuine apology has three simple parts:

1. I'm sorry.
2. I was wrong.
3. I won't do it again.

Done.

The key word being, "genuine".

@2:46am You are obviously not familiar with Australian politics. The Liberal party is considered somewhat of a rightist party as opposed to the Prime Ministers left wing party supported by the even more extreme left wing Greens.
And you are right, the Right did not get off so easily until the restaurant owner admitted guilt. This admission along with a hissy fit at men with blue ties by the PM has seen her support drop rapidly. She is a total misandrist who tries to divert attention by calling the leader of the opposition a misogynist. That sums up the state of Australian politics leading up to an election possibly in Sept.
