Holder stumps for new “hate crimes” law

This dummy seems to be unaware that this has all been thrashed out in the courts years ago
"Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that recent killings show the need for a tougher U.S. hate crimes law to stop ‘violence masquerading as political activism.’ ‘Over the last several weeks, we have witnessed brazen acts of violence, committed in places that many would have considered unthinkable,’ Holder told the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.”

I've never understood the concept of "Hate Crime". Emotional attachments to the crime should have no relation to the punshment because they are subjective. How much do you have to hate the victim before it becomes a hate crime? Do you receive reduction of your punishment if you love the victim? What if the victim hated the person committing the crime? Do two hatreds offset one another or does only the criminal's hatred count?
Punishment should be based solely on actions, because that is all that can be observered and recorded.

Funny how we never heard this crap after 9-11.

I always considered 9-11 the ultimate hate crime!

But anything that would come down on the libs favorate minority (muslims, blacks) you wil never hear about.

Check out my blog and read what I wrote (not all mine) after 9-11.

David, understanding the concept behind so-called hate crime laws is rather simple, if you first understand why they were invented. Hate crime laws were created by Leftist Democrats to appease members of left-wing special interest groups, (gays and blacks) the Democrats powerful and vocal political base.

In the real world, these laws would be unconstitutional on their face, in that, they violate the "equal protection under the law" clause of the Constitution. But, since the Left is in control of the government, and most of the courts, the Constitution is becoming the "living document" the Left has been so desperately working to turn it into. (ie: to make it "flexible" so they can bend it any way they want)

No rational person can see why assaulting a black or gay is a more serious crime than assaulting a White or hetrosexual. Then again, this country is no longer in the hands of rational people.

---What would work is increasing the penalties for assault. A 59 year old friend of mine got assaulted at the gym because a woman thought he was leering at her (he wasn't) and her 24-year old boyfriend decided to teach him a lesson. The incident was caught on camera, yet there wasn't even a trial, the judge simply gave the perp a warning and let him go, my friend couldn't even get a restraining order and he can't force the board to throw him out of the building (his attacker isn't a property owner but someone's guest). If my friend had been beaten up for being a member of a protected category, his attacker would be in jail awaiting trial. Ironically, my friend is gay, yet because he wasn't beat up for being gay, he has no recourse. According to the law, no hate crime was committed.

Does calling it a hate crime make the victim any less dead?

He of course refers to the TEA parties as "violence". After all, they're quite violently opposed to the leftist powergrab and Obamonics.

Bobby, how can anyone conclude your friend wasn't beat-up for being gay? Only the attacker knows what his true intent was. If your friend had the "right kind" of lawyer, that judges idiotic and insulting ruling would not stand.

---Because, my friend was attacked because a woman thought he was leering at her, and even after he told the boyfriend that he was gay and obviously not interested in his girlfriend, he didn't care and beat him up anyway.

I guess now I understand the unfairness of hate crime laws.
