How are they selling sex? If it's because of the outfits they wear, someone needs a cold shower. Besides, most of them are gay.
It's all in the eyes of the beholder - and who knows what fantacies go on there - whether watching male or female players!
In the celebrity world everyone sells sex, 1:53 AM, it's not about talent anymore, there was a fat opera singer and she was told to lose weight. It's all fake now, there are inferior tennis players that get bigger endorsements because they are better looking. Martina Navratilova and Billy Jean King are among the greatest female tennis players in the world, but they never made much money while Anna Kournikova has made millions yet she hasn't won a championship in years.
Honestly, I wish people would leave sex where it belongs (porn, beauty pageants) and take it out from where it doesn't belong (movies, music, sports, politics).
Bobby - you are absolutely right and Anna Kournikova is indeed the proof.
If you are attractive you only need to be moderately successful to be famous and wealthy.
If however you are not - it hardly matters how good you are.
Sportspeople are all competing for scarce sponsorship and endorsement deals - these tend to go to those who look good on tv/magazine/billboards.
Its hardly a secret.
Anyone who smashes balls with the force of a jack-hammer has to be respected.
Sex sells in every aspect of modern life.
It's a fact so naysayers....

I'm a bit confused here. Female tennis stars can only win matches using their skill, not their beauty or the percentage of their exposed flesh. I guess we are just lucky that several are stunningly beautiful as well as good players.
Having said this, I must admit to only watching ladies tennis. My excuse is that I don't like the male power service game and prefer longer baseline rallies, but the fact that my favourite Olympic sport happens to be womens beach volleyball points towards other, more subconcious motives.

---That's the way it is, that's why people are getting gastric-bypass surgeries, some women are throwing up 3 times a day, teenagers are taking steroids, the rich get plastic surgery and lots of people are trying to achieve the beauty ideal they see on TV, magazines and stores.
Aside that, I've never taken women's sports seriously, men are more often than not stronger than women, the strongest male bodybuilder can lift more than the strongest female bodybuilder. In women's basketball I haven't seen a Dennis Rodham, or a Shaquille O'neal, in football most women are cheerleaders, in ice skating it's the man who lifts the woman and not the woman who lifts the man, in NASCAR I think there's one or two women car drivers but I haven't seen them became the next Dale Earhart.
So what's the point of women's sports? They should stick to being strippers and serving in the military. :)
If all the women's tennis stars looked like Billie Jean King the winners would be taking home a lot less money. Many of the male viewers just would not be interested and so advertising dollars would greatly decrease.
On a side note.. Have you guys seen the 17year old Russian or Ukrainian tennis player with gigantic boobs? I'd watch her play tennis..
Actually, if one thinks about it, John East's desire for women is probably quite normal, rather than perverted. Now if he were attracted to men, THAT would be perverted! I suppose the proper term sought is cad, or tomcat, or voyeur, or something similar along those lines...
