Obama regime seeks expanded spying power on the Internet

We read:
"Federal law enforcement and national security officials are preparing to seek sweeping new regulations of the Internet, arguing that their ability to wiretap criminal and terrorism suspects is ‘going dark’ as people increasingly communicate online instead of by telephone.

Essentially, officials want Congress to require all services that enable communications — including encrypted e-mail transmitters like BlackBerry, social networking websites like Facebook and software that allows direct ‘peer to peer’ messaging like Skype — to be technically capable of complying if served with a wiretap order.”

The feds are so used to being able to listen in on telephone conversations that the idea people may be able to converse privately over long distances scares the willies out of them.

Of course, the idea that terrorists can converse privately over long distances scares the willies out of me.

What IS the proper balance between privacy rights and the government's legitimate need to protect its citizens?

Imagine if this had been proposed during the GWB administration. The professional lefties would be protesting about facism (something they are very familiar with).

"Imagine if this had been proposed during the GWB administration."

You forget about the "Patriot Act" and its attack on personal rights.

"For every left wing idiot, there is an equal and opposite right wing idiot."

It's too bad that they are not like matter / antimatter, where they would obliterate each other upon contact.

As much as the "left" decried and vilified the Patriot Act, you'd think it's repeal would have been one of the first things accomplished under the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Regime.

Nope.

As a matter of fact, Obama extended it on February 27, 2010 for at least another year.

Guess it's alright for the Libs to have all that power - it was only when it was in the hands of the Republicans that it was a danger....
