Kansas High School Teacher Fired for Being Conservative?

We read:
"Early in May, Lawrence High School of Lawrence, Kansas fired government and history teacher Tim Latham. Latham charges that District 912 fired him because he is a conservative and many of his students have since rallied to his defense. Some 200 of them joined a FaceBook page in support and four appeared at a school board meeting on June 8 to advocate for their favorite teacher.

One reason given for the firing is that Mr. Latham did not show Obama’s inauguration live in his class and another is that staff members disparaged him for supporting Republicans during the late presidential race, most especially then vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin.

This teacher has the perfect opportunity to put this Leftist school in it's place, by using the same tool the Left uses, the courts. Sue them! Nothing hurts leftists more then having to actually pay "their own" money to defend/explain their ideology.

Anon 1:50, suing them doesn’t hurt them at all, except to bring daylight to what they want to do in the darkness. After all their lawyers are paid with the same money as the rest of what they do, so they pay the lawyers and then cut other programs. Then they can tell the students parents of all the programs that are being cut because of un-expected expenses, unless a tax increase is passed. And how many people will remember back in time when the lawsuit was filed?

Anon 4:16 - what rant? Anon 1:50 merely makes a reasonable suggestion based on the article posted. If te school administration based their decision to fire on the teacher's political viewpoint they should be held accountable

Note the word 'if'. It's possible we aren't hearing the entire story. There may be other factors at work.

However, I'd guess a conservative teacher in most schools would have a difficult time getting along with his peers. And more people are fired because they don't fit in than are fired because they can't do their job.

Anon 4:16 - Blah blah blah. Tired old Lefty incapable of rational though.

Typical rightist - can't even spell.

Hadn't he got the memo that Obama is God and not singing His Praise is therefore heresy?
He should be happy he's only been fired and not burnt at the stake.

I just hope he's a fair and balanced teacher, because that's what the kids need, teachers that help you think instead of force-feeding you ideology.

"I just hope he's a fair and balanced teacher, because that's what the kids need, teachers that help you think instead of force-feeding you ideology."

It don't matter anon if he is fair and balanced.

He's been fired and I'm sure that will black-ball him forever finding another teaching job.

I'm a Conservative, but I see the end in sight, I try to put up a good fight but like Custer the odds are against me.

Time to kiss my ass goodbye!

"I'm a Conservative"

Sorry to hear that.

There. Fixed it for you.

When do you plan to stop using logical fallacies and start making legitimate arguments?

"It don't matter anon if he is fair and balanced."

---I know, but it matters to me. I've had a few ideological teachers in my life, they're no fun at all.

"I'm a Conservative, but I see the end in sight, I try to put up a good fight but like Custer the odds are against me."

---Don't be so sure, Fox News is #1, Glen Beck enjoys a big following, Tea Parties are happening all over the country, there's growing dissatisfaction with socialism, so the war's not over yet. The left often gets their way because they know how to make more noise than we do, that's something we have to learn from them.

"Glen Beck enjoys a big following"

So does American Idol. Big deal. You will always get a following for an entertainment program.

"So does American Idol. Big deal. You will always get a following for an entertainment program."

---Glen Beck is a POLITICAL program, he influences people based on ideology, he enjoys a big following among moderates and even some liberals.

American Idol is a useless show, those singers don't know anything about politics, they're not going to tell you what's really going on in the country.

You watch Glen Beck and you learn something, he makes you think, maybe you write your congressman so he knows how to vote if he wants to keep getting elected.

American Idol and Dancing with the Stars are mindless entertainment, I would rather watch South Park or The Goodes (about a politically correct family) than that garbage.

How odd.

Hey 7:48 AM

"The Glen Beck Program, the fusion of entertainment and enlightenment."

---Exactly, entertainment WITH enlightenment. Glen Beck uses comedy to discuss great truths such as, "What green jobs really cost," and the $8 billion Hudson River Project.

What's odd is that you're not outraged at how the Obama-loving media is hiding the truth of the socialist disaster upon us.

Your buddy, Bush, started us down this path with the first bailout.

Check me if I am wrong, but didn't President Obama start work on Jan 20 2009? All but one bailout (BofA) were in 2008, clearly during the Bush regime.

That site says the bailouts started with Nixon (a REPUBLICAN), who was defeated by his congress in bailing out a railroad company.

So that suggests that the Republicans have always been the ones to blame for this.

Wow. My ignorance is completely cured. Thanks Anonymous!!

Anon 3:50,

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts"
U. S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 8

In other words, CONGRESS is the branch that writes the spending plans.

So where was the Big O working until January 20th, 2009?

I sure hope your doctors are better at identifying the correct cure than you are.

Obviously not, but it is a start in your education and cure from ignorance and BDS.

I always find it amazing when people just are mature enough to say "sorry, I was wrong," and instead try and shift the goalposts to another subject.

You maintained that Bush started the bailouts. That statement is completely and totally false. (Bailouts go back even further than 1970, but that is another issue.) Just be an adult and admit your error and move on.

Anonymous said...

It may be that Congress controls the spending. But as that site clearly says, it was NIXON who wanted to bail out the first company, not CONGRESS.

The very first bail out in 1970 was a REPUBLICAN idea.

You may want to actually READ your own sources.

I'm not saying it should be the only reason to fire the guy, but the fact that a high school government teacher didn't show the inauguration probably says a lot about the guy. Even if he didn't vote for or support Obama, those kids will be out of highschool during the next inauguration. For him to not show it because his candidate didn't win is petty.

I'd be curious to see what other criticisms the school district has against Mr. Latham.

And now....

it was NIXON who wanted to bail out the first company, not CONGRESS.

So you agree that you were wrong in saying that the first bailout was in the Bush administration?

The very first bail out in 1970 was a REPUBLICAN idea.

And? That still doesn't change the fact that Congress controls the pursestrings.

You may want to actually READ your own sources.

You may want to try and comprehend what the source actually says. Be an adult and admit that your accustation that it was Bush that started bailouts was wrong.

C'mon. You can do it.

Anonymous said...

"Be an adult and admit that your accustation that it was Bush that started bailouts was wrong."

was: Your buddy, Bush, started us down this path with the first bailout.

is: Your buddy, Bush, started us down this path with the first modern-day bailout.

Happy now?

Probably not. Oh well.

Anon 9:20,

A) Many conservatives are quite unhappy with Bush. Reasons include signing McCain-Feingold, promises to sign a new AWB if Congress passed one, and other violations of the Constitution. Yes, that includes the bailout.

Therefore, while it is appropriate to point out that this bailout started with Henry Paulson and was then promoted by President Bush, that does not mean it was the right thing to do, just because he has an 'R' after his name. He is not our "buddy".

B) Obama also voted for this travesty. Therefore, he shares responsibility for it too.

"The then presidential candidates from both major parties, Senators Barack Obama (D) and John McCain (R) voted in favor of the Senate version of the bill on October 1, 2008. Senator Barack Obama pledged to telephone wavering House of Representatives members to urge them to support the legislation."

Not only did he vote for it, he actively worked for its passage! Are you finally willing to admit that Obama also shares responsibility for this violation of the Constitution and abuse of taxpayer money?

Anonymous said...

is: Your buddy, Bush, started us down this path with the first modern-day bailout.

Of course that statement is wrong as well.

Happy now?

Probably not. Oh well.

As I have said, ignorance can be cured. It is apparent that you are unwilling or unable to see that your accusations are based on ignorance and are unwilling to correct them.

BDS is alive and well.

And to quote all the rage, "Oh well."

"So you agree that you were wrong in saying that the first bailout was in the Bush administration?"

Actually, Those posts were done by two different people. I know cos I did the second one. I didn't do the first.

Anonymous said...

Do you admit that Obama shares some responsibility for the bailout?

Use the Name, Luke said...

…Aaannnddd, after a couple of days, the answer seems to be "No, we will not admit that Obama also shares some of the blame for the bailouts."

Just what I expect from leftists. Pure partisanship always blames the "enemy" 100% and never, ever admits when "their guy" is wrong. Ever.

That's not respecting the truth. That's dishonestly putting power and prestige over what's true, pure and right. And that's why I don't respect partisan hacks like you one iota.
