Christian star blasted for criticizing  homosexuality

Homosexuality is FAR more sacred than the Bible, apparently

Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson has linked homosexuality to bestiality.

The 67-year-old reality TV star has come under fire from gay rights group GLAAD after making the homophobic comments in the January 2014 issue of GQ magazine and it's possible his show could now be at risk.

He told the magazine: 'Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behaviour and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.'

Phil, who claims to be devoutly Christian, then grouped homosexuals in with terrorists and prostitutes in a paraphrased Bible quote.

He said: 'Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers - they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.'

Phil, who has been married to his wife Kay since 1966, then got even more explicit, stating: 'It seems like, to me, a vagina - as a man - would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.'

GLAAD hit back soon after the interview was released online, calling him a ‘stain’ on the network A&E which airs the show.

While A&E have not yet commented, they released a statement from Robertson in which he addressed the controversy.

'I myself am a product of the Sixties', he said. 'I centred my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Saviour. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

'However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.'

UPDATE: A&E have suspended Robertson but have now themselves come under heavy attack for doing so. See e.g. here

Follow-up on Drudge last night - A&E has put Phil on "hiatus." That is, they fired him. The claim by GLAAD is that Phil is outside the "mainstream," but he's right there with the Catholic and Baptist Churches on the sinful nature of unwed sexual activity.

What Phil is describing is a logical slippery slope. When the logic of an argument used to support A also supports B, then B is the inevitable logical result of that argument, even if the person making the argument is only arguing for A and insisting that they don't agree with B.

The argument used in favor of homosexuality is that there is no inherent right or wrong about sexual behavior. Furthermore, it is argued that the only inherent wrong involved is to oppose that idea. Under the claims of that argument homosexuality is acceptable. But if there is no physiological, psychological, or moral reason for limiting it to one man and one woman within marriage, then there is no reason to rule out polygamy, pederasty, bestiality, etc. either.

It's just a publicity stunt to boost up an already crappy show.

OK, so, in America one can be fired for expressing an opinion now.

They totally ignored his statement ...'However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me.'

I didn't hear him call for violence, or any action, against anyone. He was asked a question, answered it, and because it didn't fit the narrative of the intolerant GLAAD, Phil must be punished.

Tell me, GLAAD, is Phil's statement more hateful than what Martin Bashir suggested should be done to Sarah Palin?

What about Alec Baldwin, whose angry slur was truly insulting?

Oh, I'm sorry, your hypocracy is showing.

Like the fact that the only thing the media is reporting is the gay part. He also criticize adulterers, the greedy, etc. I can't drop A&E from my cable because it's part of a package but I did block it so I won't watch it.

It's quite stunning (albeit not surprising) that gays, those who (demand) total and complete acceptance and tolerance from everyone, would show (zero) tolerance for anyone they disagree with. As is typical of the Left, they believe only their opinions matter.

Obviously, America has declined to the point where a mans opinion and his deeply-held religious beliefs mean nothing when compared with the never ending whining of the "professional victims" of the Left.

It is interesting that the source article accuses Phil of grouping homosexuals with terrorists as those who will not receive God's kingdom.

His quoted words say nothing of terrorists. But liberal pundits cannot resist using any term that sensationalizes their statements or casts a more negative slant.

There is nothing in what he said that is false, nothing that attacks anyone, nothing that calls for action against homosexuals.

At worst, all detractors can say is that Phil voiced an opinion with which they disagree.

It sounds like A&E and GLAAD are unable to deal with opposing opinions. But, what's new about that?

This thread is just a string of risible nonsense about what some bigot said about some other bigot!
As for the slippery-slope argument - then it follows that even hetro marriage would lead to all other kinds of marriage, so even that should be avoided.

8:22 - Actually this thread is about a person being fired because he voiced an opinion which is not considered politically correct.

Further, it is about society's seeming inability to allow varying opinions and statements.

I did not notice anything in the quoted statement that indicated that the fellow is afraid of homosexuals. AFAIK, to be "phobic" is to be afraid of something and he does not state that he is afraid of them.

Stain? Please insert your joke (or whatever) here:

A&E attempted to cut Jesus from the family prayers. Also the facebook page of boycott A&E apparently has over 1 million likes in less than 48 hours.

While I mostly agree with you Luke your reasoning falls down when you get to behaviours with entities that cannot give real consent - either by reason of age or not being human...

Phil Robertson is not a bigot! as glaad would have you believe. All he did was quote the Bible. He even made sure to say that he loves all humans and it is not his job to judge any one. All he did was point out what the Bible says is a sin.

The Bible calls a lot of things sinful, many of which are ignored by Christians, who prefer to focus on homosexuality, which no doubt has very freudian reasons!!

Anon 3:11 - The Bible calls many things sins and calls everyone except Jesus a sinner and therefore worthy of death because of their sin.

The rest of the message is about love and redemption (that is having someone else pay that price for your sin).

Its only those who cannot give up their favorite sin who tend to see criticism of their peculiar sins as being especially frequent.

It suggests that the particular focus on homosexuality by Christians and Moslems is that they feel guilty for any such proclivities in themselves, and so must "project" (as psychologists call it).
Obviously, atheists couldn't care less what the "Bible" said about anything!

The blood sacrifice of God's son was just an extension of the "scapegoat" in the Hebrew religion and the story of Abraham showing willing to sacrifice his son.
Human sacrifice was also common in pagan religions.

From the Conservative dictionary:
Tolerance

From the Progressive dictionary:

If atheists couldn't care less about what the Bible says, they wouldn't hate it and oppose it. Methinks they doth protest too much.

Atheists dislike the Bible for the undue cultural influence it has had over the centuries that's been of a very negative nature, and continues to be for non-Christians and those who disagree with remaining Christian dogmas in its various forms. Whether they protest too much like Hamlet's mother is a matter of opinion.
