I have become a victim of a hate crime

And I'm "all shook up", as Elvis Presley used to say.

As most readers of this blog will be well aware, there are a lot of America-haters in America. The further Left you go, the more of them you meet. Even low-lifes like the Palestinians are seen as better than America by some Americans.

So it should be no surprise that there are a lot of America-haters in other countries too. And Australia is one such country.

I fly various flags from the flagpole in front of my house, depending on what is happening at the time. Last Thanksgiving, I ran up Old Glory in honour of that occasion. When I run up a flag, however, I tend to leave it there until something else crops up. So Old Glory was still flying at midnight on Monday.

Some young bigot didn't like that, however, so at midnight on Monday dumped a big rubbish bin full of domestic rubbish in my driveway. When I went out to see what the noise was, he went into a rant about what a dreadful place America is and what a bad person I must be to fly the American flag. He then strolled off down the street with his empty garbage bin.

Our bigot was not too bright, however. Among his garbage was something that probably identified him so I spent most of the next morning endeavouring to interest the police in what they saw as a trivial matter. I did manage to get them moving so I await developments.

If they catch him, I will try to have him prosecuted under State hate crime laws. That could be interesting. Such laws are very rarely used here but to have them used against a genuine hate crime would be good.

Hmm - some americans here say they would do a lot worse things if they saw a mexican flag flying in the US. However, it's very bad form to dump garbage on a neighbor's property just because you don't like his yard "decorations".

JonJay,

I hope they catch the idiot and prosecute him. But hope springs on limp coils in many countries.

Too bad you are restricted from owning hand-guns. A few rounds from a Glock would have solved the perp's I.D. instantly.

Ireland, which is supposed to have such strong ancestrial ties with America (40% of Americans claim Irish ancestry) happens to be one of the biggest detractors of American foreign policy and, in fact, are huge supporters of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Palistinians.

I'm ashamed to say I avoid putting an American flag or USMC bumper-sticker on my car beacuse it would only result in my car being vandalised or burnt out.

Funny, because you can display the tricolour anywhere without a worry and it's almost mandatory on March 17th!

One of the reasons America is hated so, is because we give (and do) too much for too many, and yes, that includes Australia. When these nations, and people, get into trouble, we should do what everyone else does, and we should do what they do for us. Nothing! Let them sink or swim on their own. Let them fight their own wars. Let them feed their own people, or let them starve. Let them clean-up after their own earthquaks, torrnados, tsunamis, famines, and anything else that we usually end up paying for.

One of Ameroca's biggest problems is that we don't know how to mind our own business. And when i say "we" i meant the govt. not the people. (the people are not nearly as gullible as the govt. is)

In the real world, the less you do for people, the more you're appreciated. It's the givers, (ie. the suckers) who are taken advantage of. Let 'em eat cake!

That's a really pathetic statement to make, especially from a Marine, assuming you are/were one. What makes it so pathetic is that WE THE PEOPLE have allowed things to go so far that an American would make a statement like that. That the rest of the world looks down on us is something our lying, elected crooks have earned for us. That we tolerate it, is something we've earned all on our own. We truly have become a nation of sheeple.

Next time that jerk dose that just take a handful of trash pull open his collar drop the trash in and tell him to go live in the dump or better yet report him to the cops and hope he ends up paying a big fine

I'm sorry that happened, but thank you for honoring my country.

Apparently your neighbor doesn't not believe in your right to free speech. Keep up the good fight.

GI Joe - the US and other countries stick their noses in around the world (either aggressively or subversively) for their own hoped-for benefit, and a lot of so-called "aid" (at least government-related aid) is for influence and future business.
The US often criticizes past empires and imperialism in general, but it practises it in another way, and a somewhat cheaper way, as it has no direct responsibility for the countries it dominates.
Otherwise I agree that countries should completely butt out of others' affairs unless invited explicitly, and then with reservations.

RE the US never getting foreign help - Libya offered to help New Orleans after the flooding but was rejected! The UK supports the US militarily, although that's probably coercion.

Anon 3:12,

Some say, you say? Hard evidence at last!

G. I. Joe are you related to Bobby?

Thankfully, I do not know many people like you. The American people I know, honor God and their country and are quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. If people hate us for it, so be it. We are are strong enough to handle it. This is why we are so exceptional. Your line of thinking would only lower us down to everyone else's level.

I don't recall the US doing anything for Australia since WW2 which was fought for mutual benefit, but the US dragged us into Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Don't get me wrong but don't put Australia in the 'we have done so much for them class' it just makes you look ungrateful for the multinational support we have given you for the last 6 decades let alone the peacekeeping missions and disaster relief world wide.
Australia is a loyal ally of the US because it is a free country (much to the disgust of many uni students and union flunkies) and punches above its weight militarily when applied appropriately in the world theatre. If in doubt research our history.
Getting back on topic the behaviour described should not be tolerated in this country but unfortunately we have an infestation of your style liberals (posing as the Labour party) in most of our states not to mention a minority federal government at the moment.
Before you run down your allies, read your history properly.
You say let them eat cake. I say enjoy your humble pie after you take your foot out of your mouth.

Well said Barry - when so many in the US are so dismissive and so distainful of even its own allies, then one day the US will not only have some enemies but only enemies.

I guess the current Wikileaks on the "diplomatic" front are showing America's true colors to the world!

I live in very liberal Arlington, VA and there are plenty of homes flying American flags or even Marine Corps flags.

That's just Bull S. and you know it, there are homes flying the mexican flag in my community and nobody has done nothing to them.

I fly the Gadsden Flag outside my house and have had more than one complaint about the symbolism of the rattlesnake and how "it's not good for children to be exposed to stuff like that." I'm also a member of the IDPA and have a gimmie cap with their logo and a picture of a semi-automatic pistol on the front. A Southwest Airlines flight attendent insisted that I remove my cap upon boarding a flight because the symbol "made other passengers uneasy." I asked her if she thought I might hurt someone with a picture of a pistol. She couldn't answer.

What kind of a nation have we become?
