NY: Kindergartner’s censored Jesus poster case goes to appeals court

We read:
"The case of a former kindergarten student whose art project with Jesus was censored by his New York school will be heard in an appeals court Friday.

Antonio Peck, the student, had drawn a poster with several religious figures with the words, “The only way to save the world,” for an art project that had to show understanding about the environment. Antonio meant to express his belief that God is the only way to save the environment, according to his legal representative Liberty Counsel.

The poster was rejected by his kindergarten teacher because of its religious content and he was told to create a second poster.

For the second poster, Antonio had children holding hands around the globe, people recycling trash, and children picking up garbage. On the left side of the poster was the figure of a bearded man wearing a robe that was kneeling on the ground with hands stretched toward the sky. Although the figure is not identified, Antonio said it was Jesus.

The second poster was allowed to be displayed on a cafeteria wall, along with 80 other student posters. But what made Antonio’s poster different was it was folded in half to hide the Jesus figure.

"Despite the federal guidelines on religion in public schools recognizing that students may include religious themes in assignments, school officials insisted on folding Antonio Peck's poster in half to hide the figure they interpreted to be Jesus,” said Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel. “What a terrible message to send to students that everything is permissible so long as it is not Christian. These educators need educating about the Constitution and American history."

Yet if the kid had done a portrait of Obama with a halo I'm sure that would have passed.

One more reason for homeschooling.

While I agree with the sentiment of keeping kids out of public schools due to the ill-informed people that run them, at the same time people like this kid's family and the Liberty Counsel should be applauded for taking on this fight to protect the Constitution.

Years ago the Supreme Court ruled that the funding of the public school system benefited the United States in that it provided a basis for "good citizenship."

This family and the Liberty Counsel are actively continuing that goal by educating the teacher, principal and school board in this district.

Coming from The Peoples Republic of NY, this is not at all surprising. NY's teachers are controlled by their union, and their union is 100% communist. Of course, had he done a poster of Che, he would've received an A+.

This is what happens when parents are too busy to care about what's being done to their children. America's schools are Leftist indoctrination camps and that won't change until We The People change it!

Homeschooling is really hard, the parent needs to spend a lot of hours with his kids, teach them chemistry, physics, all kinds of subjects he or she may not be familiar with. Besides, there's also the money issue since not many marriages can afford a housewife or househusband unless one of the spouses really makes a lot of money.

I admire those parents that choose to homeschool their kids. However, having taken private math lessons with my mom I can say that it's not a lot of fun.

Yours is a common misconception with homeschooling. There is a wealth of information out there to help parents. Groups of parents often band together to have a wide range of people that can help or in many cases, actually teach subjects to children other than their own.

Besides, there's also the money issue since not many marriages can afford a housewife or househusband unless one of the spouses really makes a lot of money.

The second income you speak of is often eaten up by a second car, daycare, etc. because the parent is working and not with the child. Many parents when they do the math find out that they may have to downsize slightly, but there is no financial drain on the family.

The teacher and the principal should be fired. But this is the age of the baroke odummy, so we will see more of this antiChrist behaviour.

This case has been going on since the year 2000. The kid is now in 10th grade.

The people who should be fired or removed from office is the school board who continue to pursue this case despite the District Court's ruling and despite their actions being against the Department of Education policies and guidelines. The judge should go as well as despite being overturned twice on this issue, he is still making a ruling that is contrary to the Constitution and precedence.

Instead of throwing more money at public schools we need to throw the teachers unions to the curb or a firey grave !!!

How many professional careers that require a masters degree are unionized? Only teachers come to mind.

Masters degree? Here in Florida you just need a "teaching certificate".. Which can be earned by getting your Bachelors in Education. Having grown up in South Florida, the only teacher Ive ever had with a Masters degree was my AP Calc teacher at my Catholic High School. He was also the only clergy member teaching a non-religious course at the school.

That says a lot about Florida.
