PA: First Amendment victory

We read:
"After months of national media attention, a student threatened with punishment for attempting to form a gun-rights group at Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is finally allowed to distribute pamphlets about the group on campus. The college has also rescinded its unconstitutional policy demanding ‘prior written approval’ for ‘personal contact with individuals or groups related to non-sponsored college material or events.’

After Christine Brashier, who wanted to form a chapter of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC), was told that her pamphlets were unacceptable ’solicitation’ and that any further efforts would be considered ‘academic misconduct,’ she turned to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help.”

Thank God for groups like FIRE. They are doing their part to save us from the bizarro world of the Left. We need more like them.

You do realize that FIRE is a group founded and headed by a self proclaimed liberal, right?

If nothing else, FIRE serves as a beacon that whether one is on the left or the right, we can get along and agree on certain issues.

Anon 1:43,
I was not aware that Alan Charles Kors and Harvey A. Silverglate were liberals, since, unlike the ACLU or the SPLC, they do not champion liberal causes. That makes your claim rather odd, yes?

As for getting along, that seems to be impossible since most liberals believe that unless you agree with them, you don't have a right to an opinion. As a matter of fact, i don't want to get along with liberals since, for the most part, they stand for everything i'm against. That is, when they actually stand for something.

they do not champion liberal causes.

They "champion" the cause of freedom of speech. They don't take on other cases.

That makes your claim rather odd, yes?

Not at all. The current president of FIRE, Greg Lukianoff, is a self described "pro-choice liberal."

i don't want to get along with liberals since, for the most part, they stand for everything i'm against.

I am sorry that you pigeon hole liberals into your perception. I would hope that you agree with Lukianoff on the issue of free speech and particularly free speech on campuses, but if you don't that is your choice.

"Because liberal groups rarely need defending!"

Is that because liberals rarely do anything wrong?

It's more a case of liberal (when used as a synonym for Leftist) groups tend to have their actions defended by like-minded campus administrators, right or wrong. Usually only those liberal by the classic meaning of the word (today labeled conservative) get any trouble from others for trying to exercise their own individual rights, such as voicing their opinion.
