How Awful! French Canadians joke about the sacred Obama

We read:
"Canada's French-language broadcaster broke television regulations by airing a comedy sketch suggesting Barack Obama would be easy to assassinate because the first black American president would stand out against the White House.

Broadcast regulator, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), said on Monday it received more than 250 complaints about a popular New Year's Eve show that featured cracks about the US president.

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council issued a public reprimand of Radio-Canada in May and the CRTC agreed. Radio-Canada is the French-language broadcasting arm of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

In one segment of the "Bye Bye 2008" comedy program, two hosts discussed Obama's election in November 2008. Obama, who took office in January, is the first black US President. "We're not racists. It will be good to have a Negro in the White House. It will be practical. Black on white, it will be easier to shoot him," one of the show's hosts remarked.

But talk about shooting George Bush was great fun, of course

Even though I oppose Obama's policies in every way, even I find these "jokes" to be massively offensive. Since when is "be as offensive as possible" considered to be a good thing?

Here's a hint for the clueless: Being outright offensive just to be offensive is not the mark of a civilized "intelligent" person, instead, it demonstrates that the offender is nothing more than a boorish jerk stuck at the mental age of 7.

Once again, we have a demonstration that the old maxim is true:

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Lighten up Luke, it's comedy. President Odumbo and his Kool-Aid gulping worshipers should be happy he's not being treated the same way they treated (and still treat) Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld. Besides, wouldn't shooting him be considered "political speech/expression", and thereby protected by the First Amendment?

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."

Annie, I don't think Luke said anything about stomping on anyones 1st ammendment rights. He just said it is offensive.

And no shooting him would not be considered "political speech/expression"... it would be considered murder which trumps the first ammendment.

You are right though that Obama and hius gang of merry men robbing from the rich and giving to the poor should be glad they are not being treated as Bush and kin were/are

Annie,

The first priority of comedy: Be funny.

Even if this had actually been funny (it wasn't) it was still 99.9% pure poison.

Imagine the tastiest breakfast you can think of. Now imagine that it's loaded with arsenic to add that nice nutty flavor of almonds. You may still call it breakfast, but somehow I doubt you would call it a "healthy" breakfast.

Throwing out the most offensive comments you can think of is not "comedy". Labelling it as "comedy" does not somehow make it worthwhile.

Anon 4:43 is right. My point isn't about the 1st Amendment. It's about these guys demonstrating to the world that they're scum sucking bottom dwellers. (My apologies to all the catfish in the world whose role is to actually clean up the filth.)

--Yes, it's called "dark humor," South Park makes millions doing it, Saturday Night Life and Mad TV have done sketches where people lose body parts, vomit, and other things that I don't find funny. But, it's humor, it's free speech, and if they could do it against Bush they should be able to do it against obama.

Perhaps, your poison is my humor? Are we now supposed to all think the same? I know that's what's coming in this country, but "a lot" of us don't (and won't) buy it. And i didn't say "you" refered to the First Amendment. I did. And, if you would like a look at "real" offensive "comedy", try watching black "comics" on cable, as they degrade Whites.

Not to be too technical here, but the First Amendment argument doesn't work - these guys are Canadian. Last time I checked, the only time the administration confers citizenship rights (miranda, speech, religion, etc.) on someone from out of the country is if they were caught trying to blow it up!

If you don't like it don't watch it. ZerObama has enough real stupidity to go around.
