"Most appalling" poster?

An English commentator with no apparent appreciation for wordplay has nominated the placard above as the most appalling among the many that were displayed at the recent anti-Obama protests.

Whether or not it is appalling is a value judgement that I will not go into but I note that truth is a defence so is Obama an African and did he lie?

People with genetics like Mr Obama's are commonly referred to in the USA as "Africans" or "African Americans" (though the simpler "black" now seems to be the dominant usage). Referring to someone of his ancestry as a "half-breed" or "mulatto" is long gone. You only need part-African ancestry to be described as an African. Nobody talks about Half-breed Americans.

And it is also true that Obama is a liar. In his recent speech to Congress he said that Republicans were not making any positive proposals about healthcare reform when they have in fact offered quite a few plans -- just not ones that Mr Obama likes. See here and here.

It has happened long before I thought it would - but I knew it would happen. ANY criticism of Obama - especially since his popularity is plummeting and his agenda is stagnating - is now "racism."

I thought it would take 18 months...not 8.

You can't call them black, as that is considered insensitive.

You have to call them african-americans, even though none of them have ever been to Africa, and few could find it on a map (comment about school!).

One thing that is being swept under the rug by everyone is that the cost isn’t what it seems to be! They say what the cost through 2019 is and then argue about how big that number is. But what isn’t being mentioned, is that the obamaplan doesn’t go into effect until 2013. So the cost isn’t for 10 years of it, it is for 7 years of it.

I'm not sure whether to be offended or amused.

Let's see - Kenya celebrated one of their 'sons' being elected, and Mr. Obama is proud of his African roots and has referred to himself as an African American.

My ancestry is Norwegian, and although my grandparents, parents, and myself were born in the U.S., I'm referred to as a Norwegian at times. It sounds like Mr. Obama can be referred to as an African.

Next, his truthfulness. Verrrry suspect. In fact, it's entirely possible he has said some untruths.

So, the wordplay works. It has basis in fact.

I'm amused.

As for the liberal Obama lovers, in the words of a past POTUS, if they can't stand the heat, they should get out of the kitchen.

That Obama is a liar is an undeniable fact for anyone who chooses to see it. He has broken or changed every promise he made during his two years of campaigning for the WH. Of course, liberals may choose to see those as simple mistakes, which would then mean that Obama is incredibily stupid. Take your pick.

As for his heritage, until such time as he produces a simple document, one that "all (real) Americans are required to produce from time to time", and for various reasons, i will continue to believe he IS NOT a natural-born citizen, and therefor unqualified to hold the office. Could the real reason he's trying so hard, and is moving so fast to push the far-left's agenda down our throats be that he wants these changes done before the truth comes out?

Ask yourself this simple question; why would an American citizen fail/refuse/be unable to produce a valid birth certificate?

The Irish claim Obama's great granduncle came from the Emerald Isle.

The little village of Moneygall (County Offaly) on the N7 Limerick road, is proud of its connection to the president-elect. Two billboards announce "Welcome to Obama country."

When Obama won the presidential election, quite a few Moneygall residents headed over to Ollie Hayes' Bar to celebrate. Hardy Drew and the Nancy Boys were scheduled to play "There's No One as Irish as Barack Obama."

The song by the Corrigan Brothers is a hit on the internet. It celebrates Obama's Irish roots.

Here's a sampling of the lyrics:

O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'Hare and O'Hara

There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama

From the old Blarney Stone to the green Hills of Tara

There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama

Our Barack's a hero, I've heard them say

Fenian to Kenyan, the American Way
He's Cuchulainn, Liongo, not Vishnu or Brahma

But there's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama
