Radio Host is Called a Queen

The Australian equivalent of Rush Limbaugh cops it:

"The fight for Sydney radio's ratings crown has turned nasty early, with newcomer Sonia Kruger slammed for calling reigning breakfast king Alan Jones a "queen".

Despite losing listeners in her first survey for Mix 106, Kruger sledged the veteran broadcaster in a report on Tuesday for her other employer Today Tonight.

Yesterday, the flippant quip at his sexuality earned her a savaging from Jones' 2GB stablemate Ray Hadley, who pledged to black-ban the TV presenter and Channel 7 program.

The showbiz reporter, who registered a poor 4.4 per cent audience share compared with Jones' 19.1, antagonised her rivals when interviewed about the survey results, joking: "Now we know the real queen of breakfast radio is Alan Jones."

It was of course a double entendre, though not a very subtle one. And it's not very accurate. I have no doubt that Jones is homosexual (though he has not "come out") but "queen" generally refers to an effeminate homosexual, which Jones is not.

The woman concerned does not seem to have suffered any penalty so far.
