Bigotry against black conservatives

We read:
"They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement — and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said.

Johnson and other black conservatives say they were drawn to the tea party movement because of what they consider its commonsense fiscal values of controlled spending, less taxes and smaller government. The fact that they're black — or that most tea partyers are white — should have nothing to do with it, they say....

Tea party voters represent a new model for these black conservatives — away from the black, liberal Democratic base located primarily in cities, and toward a black and white conservative base that extends into the suburbs....

"I've gotten the statement, 'How can you not support the brother?'" said David Webb, an organizer of New York City's Tea Party 365, Inc. movement and a conservative radio personality.

Since Obama's election, Webb said some black conservatives have even resorted to hiding their political views.

"I know of people who would play the (liberal) role publicly, but have their private opinions," he said. "They don't agree with the policy but they have to work, live and exist in the community ... Why can't we speak openly and honestly if we disagree?"

Not being able to hold a non-leftist opinion publicly is not something only blacks have to deal with, it's the norm for most of the world's population irrespective of race.

In the US it's not yet usually a death sentence to be known to be a right thinking person, so you should count yourself lucky.

Mr. Johnson makes a good point in that, there are far more Conservative blacks than the left would like you to believe. This story also brings out another good (and factual) point, that the 97% of blacks who voted for Obummer did so "only" because he's black. This proves something i've been saying for a long time, that generally speaking, and in spite of what they try to convince you of, blacks are the most racist people in this country.

Being afraid to admit that you're not part of the left, but instead, part of the "much larger" non-left makes you a loser. It is also why the Left is able to create the "false" impression that their numbers are larger than they actually are.

Unless those on the right and the center start showing some backbone, and start dealing with leftists using their own methods, the very real culture war we're in will be lost!

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said.

The best response I can think of to that is that the Republican party was founded as a party to abolish slavery, while the Democrats were opposed to abolishing slavery, and even in the wake of slavery's abolition, started up the Ku Klux Klan to terrorize people, both black and white, who were likely to vote Republican. And blacks in the late 19th Century remembered who abolished slavery, and who tried to maintain it. It is also worth pointing out that as white people are not uniform in their beliefs, it is equally absurd to believe that black people or individuals of any other race are all uniform in their thinking and beliefs.

"I've gotten the statement, 'How can you not support the brother?'" said David Webb, an organizer of New York City's Tea Party 365, Inc. movement and a conservative radio personality.

David Webb could respond, "Who says I'm not? Who says that fighting to liberate "the brother" from the new slavery of government dependence, and instead give him a life of freedom and plenty isn't supporting "the brother"?"

The moment we start doing as the left is doing and become violent thugs we've lost most all we have, our civility and honour.
We'd be left only with our knowledge that we're right(eous), for me that's not enough.

The cold truth is that while there is bigotry on both sides, the Left always seems to be first to point it out, even when it does not exist. It's the Left's way of stirring controversy and attention to issues that otherwise would get none.

Obama is not a "black" President. He's a not-quite-white" one.

According to his census form, in which he demonstrated the "race" field is arbitrary, he is "black"

Wait. Wouldn't that mean he falsified his census? Isn't that against the law?
